  1. Expect to start seeing 'science' from about June, I gather from my astro-physisist step-step-nephew. Who has just got a 3 year research place at Harvard. Smart arse.
  2. Here Miss; Isn't that political?
  3. Quarantine cut to 7 days. Desperate to get the wage-slaves back to work.
  4. Just finished "The Massacre of Mankind" by Stephen Baxter. An authorized sequel to "War of the Worlds", and it works very well. If you've not recently read* WotW, I'd do so again to get the finer points. *Rather than listening to the Jeff Wayne or Orson Wells** versions. ** Gets a few veiled references though. ULLA...
  5. I can't help wonder what the share dividend is? And I'd guess that 'absenteeism' is actually staff who have to stay at home with children who have Covid.
  6. Been looking for this graph on and off for some time.
  7. Oh yes... However, the first book, as so often, is SO much better than the rest.
  8. MrsC - who makes things from string, concurs.
  9. There were some mad old Heil readers at Bournemouth Airport blaming the EU for the travel restrictions, and having to wear a mask on the plane.
  10. Perhaps if we were behaving like the Spanish around me* we would be in a much better place. Masks everywhere, even quite young kids. No one bleating about ' their rights' outside shops and bars. *23 and sunny, just off to the beach with a book. Sorry, drizzly and cold England.
  11. I'll wave from Gran Canaria - equally, if nothing changes!
  12. Having lived in Texas, with the huge A/C compressors outside - yep, it will be noisy. However, in Britain, most of the noise will be in the winter, and evenings, when we are less prone to be outdoors.
  13. No. (Apparently I have to write more than that)
  14. Yeah, me. Took two, half an hour apart. One positive, one negative. Chocolate tea pots come to mind, along with dodgy procurement. RIBBIT!
  15. Dune 1984 is £3.49, 2012 is £15.99 on Amazon.
  16. Good luck with running your microwave/mixer/tools/etc on DC. Even better luck persuading people to change all of their kit and rewiring.
  17. Double, and then double again whatever the caterers claim they'll use. "Oh, we didn't think about the two coffee makers, and the 3kW urn for the tea..." Lights and sound should be OK with their estimates. However, someone needs to allow for "Exit route" lighting, including emergencies.
  18. Not just one person either, or the office cleaner will be carrying the can. Someone should have been supervising; and someone appointed that supervisor above their skill level, or failed to train them.
  19. Or, rather, we are fined £1/2 million, due to ineptness. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-59505637
  20. Some have - not all illnesses are visible. Fox excluded.
  21. But he's a total............ so perhaps should be forcibly exempted from having an opinion.
  22. Because the Building Regs haven't caught up. If a builder can get away with something on the cheap, he will.
  23. Nope. IF (and looks like a big if) we go away as soon as we break up, we have to pay for private {insert politics here} PCRs on return.
  24. I'd be doing it, if we weren't so close to retirement and moving. Will probably do it on next house as a priority - assuming the market behaves for us.
