We are experiencing an intermittent fault with Windows 10 clients group policy printer settings. Clients receive printer mappings via Computer Group Policy Preferences, these all apply correctly. Clients will sporadically drop printer connections; this occurs after users have been logged on for a period of time. When checking Devices and Printers the printer is not showing, however the printer still shows within applications when going File | Print, Device Manager shows no printer installed, trying to reinstall the printer manually will give a generic Windows 0x0 error. No policy processing errors are appearing on the local client in event Viewer. Carrying out a reboot will remap the printer and gpresult /r shows the policy applying correctly. We have also tried disabling background updating of printer policies to no avail. All clients are Windows 10 LTSB. Any thoughts? Thanks Paul

To place two lessons on at the same time with the same class teacher requires a clash to be locked into the scheduling. This can be done either on the Block screen or the Band screen, in the screen shot below I have already scheduled 12D/Ar1 onto Tue1, now on the Year 11 Option A block drag the session onto the timetable screen: Tue1 is highlighted in green as there is currently one clash, in this case the art class, upon releaseing the cursor over Tue1 the following screen will appear: Tick the Lock/Clash column and click OK The session on the build screen will now display in green denoting that the session is locked, removing the lock will remove the scheduling from the session. The staff members Timetable will now show both classes.

Backup will be located in the backups directory within the default SQL Server application location on the server (usually D:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.SIMS2008\MSSQL\Backup), you will need to run dbattach.exe from on the server to restore.

We have a number of schools who have similar arrangements, this is what we would normally recommend: The best way to deal with this would be to change your reg organisation to AM lessons, you would then timetable the reg periods as actual lessons on the Mon, Tue, Thu, & Fri. Reg would now in essence be period 1. For the Wednesday session mapping would point to period 2 and you would set P1 on a Wednesday as a dummy period. Earliest marks would apply to every day unless you switched on and off prior to the start/end of the day, consequently not recommended (this is aimed at post 16 use only).

Providing site coverage can be obtained by utilising radios working in simplex mode (back to back on the same frequency) a Simple UK (formally a UK General license) will suffice, this will allow operation at up to 5W ERP VHF or 4W on UHF, this will cost £75 for 5 years and will allow use just about anywhere within the UK and will give you a dozen or so different frequencies in both VHF high band and UHF band II. These however are shared frequencies so if you are in a heavily populated area you may run into channel sharing issues. A potentially more expensive licensing route would to be to gain a Simple Site license, this will give you your own frequency for use within a designated geographical area pricing will depend on RF density within your locale, these are payable annually. Handportable wise if price is a major consideration I would recommend either the Icom IC-F3002/4002 which can be obtained for around £130 or the Motorola CP040 about £150, if you have a bit more to play with the Motorola GP330 @ £230. Have you looked at the price of the Genesis software? As a cheaper option radios can be programmed with a preset list of status messages which are encoded using 5-tone signalling, the radios you are looking at will support this at no extra cost to yourseleves, staff won't be able to compose there own messages but will be able to recall preset messages from the radios status menu, this is also the method which can be employed to identify each calling party on the radios screen.

before you can go ahead and do this you will need to ensure the following is adhered to: You are using licensed radios Your License covers you for 'PSTN Interconnect' Your radios are capable of generating DTMF tones Your radios either have a keypad for direct entry such as the Motorola GP380 or can have a contact list programmed into them to recall such as the Motorola GP360 You have a repeater which you can attach a Telephone Interconnect to Such as a Zetron 35A As you can see its not a straight forward process, even if you have the radios and the repeater already to hand they will unlikely be programmed up to simply 'plug and play' requiring reprogramming by a dealer. I have used a similar setup personally in school before integrating with an Avaya IP office system.

Best solution I have seen/used is keeping a set of laminated reg lists with dry wipe pens to hand, these are taken out on the alarm sounding and reg tutors mark pupils present or absent, these are then checked against a report printed out from your MIS of choice listing only absentees, this can be run either after morning/afternoon reg or if using lesson registration could be quickly run out on the alarm sounding. This would also need to be cross checked with any signing in books etc. After the evacuation reg lists can simply be cleaned and reused, obviously they will need to be kept up to date with new arrivals etc.
