Hi All, Wondering if anyone has any innovative ideas for the following scenario: A student has a home drive containing all of their work, and they either a) delete their entire home drive and claim the system lost it to get out of the fact that they haven't done their assignments etc. or b) they print their work, and while they are at their printer, the student next to them decides to open their home drive, select all, and delete for a laugh. Unfortunately this happens entirely too often whereby a student doesn't report this until after our backup retention period has expired (making me think it might be option a) I was wondering if there are any ideas for removing students rights to delete from their own home drive or generated emails for bulk deletions to notify of potential issues. Any ideas would be greatly received and well aware that user training is best, I just know that students (if being done maliciously) will not bat an eyelid.

Bookings Display Name / SIMS Name
Benmorgan86uk replied to Benmorgan86uk's topic in Home Access Plus+
Hi Nick, Just a quick bit of outline, I currently have users with display name for instance Joe Bloggs, the export from SIMS comes out as Mr J Bloggs. I have tried adding "Mr J Bloggs" to the notes section in active directory and I am still getting "The User cannot be found from Mr J Bloggs" Have I misinterpreted your message? or am I doing something wrong? -
Can anyone point me in the right direction or give me any advice on this. Currently my display names on active directory are setup as %First Name% %Surname%, however HAP requires it to appear as %Title% %Initials% %Surname%, rather than going through and changing the display names on active directory, I would love to be able to modify the report definitions to pull First Name and Surname and just use that. Is this possible? and if so, can anyone assist with what needs modification? Thanks Ben

Could you confirm a couple of things? 1. Can you confirm which driver type you are using on the printer, I have known certain drivers to play up when integrated with Papercut and such tools (used to get problems with PS drivers and PCounter) 2. Is this on a particular make/model of printer (used to find it wouldn't print on our MFPs but worked fine on our Lasers) 3. Is this printing from Adobe Reader 10/11 directly, or is this the web-based plugin for PDFs?

Interactive Seating Map for Suites
Benmorgan86uk replied to Benmorgan86uk's topic in Web Development
I want to try and keep all data in-house although Classcharts.com looks pretty cool, another one to investigate so kudos for that. I can't help thinking that this cannot be THAT hard to do, to get a jpeg, create flash buttons or something and add a menu to it, just don't want to go head on into one program and get tunnel vision when there is something better/easier to do the job. -
Hi All, I have been quite keen on creating an interactive seating map for computer suites to be able to execute suite checking on a tablet device as well as by staff on the intranet. Something a bit similar to Ticketmasters interactive seating map but allows for faults to be logged against individual machines. My question is, what software would be best to create this kind of thing on, I have seen bits saying Visio, Infopath, creating something in Adobe CS. Any thoughts?

I think in line with that it would be handy to have informational emails such as a booking being cancelled by an admin notifies the teacher that has booked the room so at very least the teacher doesn't think they have booked the room and find another class or exam in there.

Hi Mike, Beggars can't be choosers, I am more than happy to wait as long as necessary, completely understand as you're giving up your own time to share this with the Edugeek community. Kudos to you and looking forward to any updates.

I think those changes would be absolutely fantastic. I have just installed your Booking System and am hugely impressed. As soon as there is 2 week timetable function, I would be more than happy to roll live.

Does anyone know why I would have no management tools (i.e. Booking System, Helpdesk etc.) for any user on our domain. I have logged in with two domain admin accounts (that were working yesterday) yet today they appear as standard users. EDIT: Appears to be an issue with 9.3 upgrade as when I copy the version 9.0 files back into the directory, I get the management options back, then copy the 9.3 files, management options disappear again.

The issue I am experiencing personally is with a member of staff rather than a student. Basically we have had a member of staff that has been entered as having leave which they are not entitled to, we would like to know who entered it so we can check if it was accidental etc.
-
I am looking at this simply being able to tell an admin who entered what information. I would have thought it would be good practice to be able to have an trail for situations such as this. I completely agree with the win key + L, but I have seen staff accidentally type their passwords in the username field before now, and students have seen it. I simply look at the situation as either 1. a student can see a password and start causing mayhem and the only sure way to ensure they cannot get in again is to change all the passwords, or 2. an admin can track it back to a specific user, change just their own password, and there is no major panic. Maybe I am being a mug, but this all makes sense in my head

Apologies if this is in the wrong place, I am new here. Why we cannot do this already absolutely baffles me but... I have logged a change request with Capita regarding data tracking in SIMS. We have recently experienced an issue whereby someone has put some incorrect data into SIMS and are quite keen to find out who it was in order to approach them and, if neccessary, retrain them in how to do it correctly. Basically someone had entered an absence in incorrectly which has potential ramifications, however this has got me thinking, what would stop a student accessing a workstation with SIMS on it, and modifying pieces of SIMS, or worse still, obtaining a member of staff password, surely this would would enable the administrators to be able to spot potential training issues, and also (and more importantly) potential security breaches. I would appreciate anyone that feels the same if they could take a look at the change request and vote on it. Change Req. Number: 1202-1043439

Promethean Activ Studio unattended install
Benmorgan86uk replied to cjohnsonuk's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
Hi Chris, I don't know if his is any use to you, but if you are using a Windows based domain and use active directory/group policy, could you not use your modified .msi package and roll this out through software installation policy? In line with that, could you not attach the current installer as a software installation policy, wait for policy to update on all clients, and make sure the "uninstall when object falls out of scope" option is checked. Might be worth a test, not something I have tried, most of the time if your using a software installation policy, it will update the existing package, or install alongside. Hope this might be of some use. -
Has anyone had any problems with regards to the power switch on ASUS Barebones system V2-P5945G bending backwards under pressure? I have tried to source a new IO Board (Part No: V2-IO-A/USB/DP_CARD) and ASUS have been unwilling to talk to me and I have generally had very little success in finding anywhere that stocks this part. If anyone has any fixes for this or a place from which I can buy the new IO board, it would be greatly appreciated.
