  1. Posted before you posted your last! Disregard!
  2. As Geoff mentions I would certainly start by putting them on a dedicated switch as my AX100i is setup. Failing all of Geoff's suggestions Ring Dell there enterprise storage support is supprisingly good (based in Glasgow).
  3. Is anyone able to share with me the costings of Blackboard. I beleive its per user, before anyone one jumps in I'm not after buying it I just need to know the costings as I'm putting in a rival bid for a fairly big educational institute.
  4. Either Suit or my infamous supply teacher style brown corduroy Jacket (minus elbow pads)!

    Censorent Not Filtering

I have rebooted several times, have checked walled garden domain entries all seem ok.
  8. My censornet box has for some reason stopped filtering all internet traffic, user accounts who are set as "Filtered" can access all sites in the block list and content filters. Anyone seen this before or have any ideas? Thanks
  9. Check your pm's
  10. Logitech Software which comes with there cams used to have this functionality built in, so I would presume it still does. I had one set up about 5 years ago recording whenever it detected motion - I got rid of it as I got fed up with it mainly recording me sneaking back in the house as some unearthly hour!
  11. It all depends how the third party system interacts with the DB. If you are still on T4 it won't work on T6. Though you still have T4 this should not be used for amending the timetable or writing back to the SIMS SQL DB, T6 communicates solely to SIMS then T4 reads from SIMS for modules such as cover.

    System error 67

We seem to be getting the above error appearing on quite a few client PC's, which is causing no end of problems as its relating to the workstation service not running, if you restart the service all is ok but this seems to keep reoccurring. The following MS KB matches my symptoms perfectly but the remedy does not: Anyone experienced similar?
  14. Am having a few problems with my exchange box, when you come to create a new exchange account (creating a mailbox) the wizard runs through fine but does not apply any of the email address settings to the account nor is it adding the user to the global address list as it should. Any one experienced this before? I have tried repairing the exchange installation and trawling M$ KB articles to no avail.
  15. hmmm, i feel a law suit is on its way
  16. @Geoff, Its the October release you can't roll out (capita have withdrawn its rollout) Think Westfield will be issuing there usual crap to you on the 15th of this month.

    Fluke!

@Ric_would certainly make use of the equipment if ever required. My last set of contractors could do with one to! (last time they came to lay a new fibre cable they checked for continuarity in the fibre by shining a torch down the cable!!!! Needless to say they haven't been back since!)
  18. They are from a local firm, as already mentioned they are about 4 years old these are machines from before my time as i only buy Dell now unless I can get somit from the motherboard manufacturer I'm probably snookered - yet another reason not to buy from Joe Bloggs!
  19. Well its not RIS its a batch of client PC's that are all showing the same GUID (FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF0620) which is causing me megga problems with RIS as all 30 of the machines want to be called the same host name! I have tried adding the BannedGuids line to the registry on the RIS box but this has no effect what so ever! Any ideas? PC's are crappy old Celeron 1.7GHz with onboard LAN (realtek RTL8139), have also tried 3Com PCI cards but the GUID is still the same?
  20. Trixbox has my vote we now use this for our main system in school (and also at home who else can boast an IP PBX at home with automated digital receptionist?-Sad I know but does well at stopping cold callers!) dead easy to install, you could have a basic system up in about 1hr 30mins. As previously said you can use either softphones or pick some cheap SIP hardware phones up (or go ebaying for the dogs boll**** in IP telephony Cisco 7960's which can be had for about £45 though you will probably have to flash these to SIP firmware - recommend v 7.5). And providing you don't wana connect to the outside world all you will need is a fairly well speced PC P4 512MB should do you nicely.
  21. Any one ever tried upgrading the firmware on the above phone? Have tried various methods that I have found on the web to no avail! Have managed to get as far as to get the phone to communicate with my TFTP server.
  22. Am out of school at a meeting this afternoon, will post more details in the morning.
  23. A school local to ourselves in Preston is urgently after an ICT Technician, if anybody in the area is after a job can you please PM me and I can pass details onto the head.
  24. We use Dell exclusively for all server and client hardware, Have 2x 2950's and 1 ax150 san, & 2x 2850's plus a few others! all have never missed a tick though 2950's are only 2 months old. Support is second to none - make sure you get talking to a public sector storage specialist your account manager should be able to direct you in the right direction.

    CCTV

Ok where to start! You first of all need to decide what type of system you want IP based or Digital (on its own infrastructure recording to a Digital recorder) both have there advantages - IP easily manageable in-house would even recommend installing these in-house save on installation prices - if you are wanting to record an IP based system you will need to also purchase/acquire a dedicated server with at least a 250GB hard Disk and 2GB RAM and I would recommend a piece of software called Milestone XProtect. You will need to also check cameras are compatible with the software, lists are available online. I would personally recommend the Panasonic BL family of cameras. Digital/Analogue systems are great if you don't want a load of IP cameras sitting on your LAN or there are no existing CAT5 runs in your area requiring coverage, or you are looking predominantly at external cams, we have a hybrid system all our external cams are analogue based Panasonic cams which uplink into AXIS servers to link into our IP recorder this offers full guard tour and PTZ (Pan Tilt Zoom) functionality if you were going just for a digital based system you would more than definitely require a digital recorder and a PTZ controller (providing you have PTZ cams!) My personal view on CCTV companies is that one should be very wary – to many cowboys (Particularly one company by the name of Crime Prevention) if you are just looking at installing a small IP based system I would look at doing this yourself IP cams are designed for easy install as opposed to Analogue cam with there dip switches and RS485 settings. If you were looking at installing your self I would probably be able to point you in the right direction of a supplier. Hope this helps.
