There has been a free version around a while... WSS3 was free (the baby brother of Sharepoint 2007), and WSS3 aka Sharepoint Foundation 2010 is free. The full product Im not sure on costs of at the moment - still trying to get my head around the licensing announcements. Head over to the Learning Env section, I have posted in there about Forums before - and I think there is some bits on my blog about it too. Has to be said, the forum support in 2010 (both versions) is a lot better. You can do "Mod" control using content approval... I will go back and sit in my fan boy corner now.... i dont usually post in this area lol! :-0

Going to say the dirty word "Sharepoint"... but then again, history says I would being a fan boy! LOL. Seriously though... AD aware (obviously!), free (well the Foundation Ver is).... depends what and where you are planning to use it really

Thanks too to everyone on the stand, great to meet you guys - putting faces to names, and letting me darken a corner of the stand for 3 days. Hi all Heres an odd one for you. New Apple IMACs running Snow Leopard, Apple Server controlling policy. Also use AdmitMac. Joined to domain, and domain logons all working ok. Domain is Server 2008 R2. Over the past two weeks, there have been a couple of occurances of specific MACs sending streams of malformed DNS packets across the network. We spot this after all other connectivity grinds to a halt - speeds bottom out completely, logins fail etc. Wireshark shows us streams of malformed DNS. Each time the offending machine(s) are removed, the system returns to normal after a few mins. What would cause these machines to go completely screwy! Ideas please... Stuart

I have the same problem as No.2 - but get round it in a dirty kinda fashion! My collections which control the software deplyments later are based on AD queries by name sting. eg our computer rooms are CUR028XX CUR029XX etc whee 028 and 029 are the room numbers and XX is the machine number. I do a collection query using the name like CUR028% oe CUR029% etc and they still end up in the right place. I then have another collection where the query is obsolete is yes, and clear it out every now and then. Not too elegant I know, but it dodges the native mode for the moment. My main problem though is with duplicate wds guid's. Damn lazy mainboard programmers. Grrr! Problem is I cant seem to get the banned guid policy bit to work. Ideas?

We have upgraded to this recently, and have noticed that some of our external reciepients are not getting attachments we sent. Do you know of any possible cause? The issue so far appears limited to AOL and Tiscali accounts - but cannot tell for certain. Some are seeing a winmail.dat file, others see nothing. Just to confuse the matter further - other recipients are getting the attachments just fine (such as my hotmail and gmail!). Got me a bit stumped...

Hi I am pleased to say I am one of those people who has the config you are wanting to use. My Docs Server, Sharepoint, and ISA/TMG all on separate machines and working internally and externally. PM me - but Im slightly confused by the problems you report, as I dont recall doing any specific config. Stuart

Ok, before you ask - I did not go AWOL! LOL - I'm still about, just taking a short break.... check, done. Right... next odd thing - Im writing about something non-sharepoint! OK, no lynching me James... Ever experienced a random complete slowdown? Well, it happens from time to time, and sometimes Im even lucky enough to nail it to a particular part of the network or group of machines. Either that or someone is doing some serious downloading - usually one of my techs with an ISO so they get something thrown at them (not that I support workplace violence [JOKE!!! before anyone comments] - they are those stress balls usually)... Personally - the stress balls are still a good shout though. Laters all, back to Sharepoint stuff soon. Oooh, wait - nope I think I feel another monster SCCM post coming on and also been working on Helpdesk and Integration stuff. More soon.

Ive got the previous version of Centrify on my network - and it runs ok. I will screen grab the bits you ask for - hopefully they havent changed too much! Had the upgrade notification but not done it yet!

Used to be a ServiceDesk user until it became very expensive and unreliable in its updates. Now using OCS, linked into our helpdesk software GLPI.

Also... I would use Dim StrWhatever StrWhatever = Whatever Rather than using var and declaring value in the same place.

Use the code at various points through the code (with the echo text telling you where in the code you are)... this will show where its getting to before falling over.

I'll second that. Also - get it to echo any variables to make sure it is returning what you think it is. Another hint, I use Notepad++ for writing our VBS scripts - as it will show the formatting for you. I will also be publishing a load of scripts as a "project", just need to clear it with James when I finally get chance to chat to him again since LG Conference.

Google Active User Manager. It'll do this, and track the folder paths for you. Works on Server 08 too.
