:bowl:Some of you may know about my fairly big plans for the Easter, but here is an idea of some of what we get up to... 1. Our network range is moving (thanks IFL!!)... so 20 servers to change IP settings, a load of switches and a load more WAPS! Roll on when I have a better WLAN system!! Mark (over at NetCTRL)... Im still hoping, I know we've not spoken in a bit! 2. Sharepoint is getting the two big updates from Feb. Also, putting the Podcast Kit for Sharepoint on, as well as some of the preparation for SIMS Learning Gateway. Im also going to be looking at some of the MSLG bits Im not using yet (like the calendar overlays), and start to play with Sharepoint Learning Kit. Richard (over at Salamander) - I might well be calling for help!! 3. Adding RAM to all our workstations. Up to 1GB for ICT Suites, and min 768MB everywhere else. I will be upsetting our laptop users by re-calling all those for RAM upgrades to 1GB, and re-imaging. 4. AVG --> Microsoft Forefront. Just got to make sure the damn uninstall script runs, WSUS will do the rest. I will be posting a separate blog about getting Forefront up and running and why we chose it over AVAST and AVG. 5. Hopefully rest at the end!! Roll on Holiday in May... not had a proper one since September!!! Thats your lot for now... as always, comments, questions always welcome!!

Import Calendar Into Sharepoint
TheScarfedOne replied to EduTech's topic in Virtual Learning Platforms
I just had a quick look at mine - and this works for me to (although since we also use Office 2007 - the calendar can be edited in Outlook)... I've got the Connect to Access option... -
Lets have a screenie of yours then at the mo??!!

Thumbs up for Webmans system here - version 1 does what it says on the tin. Version 2 looks awesome... cant wait to get my hands on it!

if you contact them - they can supply a CC3 version on CD. You need to apply both the Installshield and Prodesktop Packages. We arent a CC3 school anymore - but they still work fine here!
-
Not directly, but in RPM, what you can do is set up a "dummy " server queue which RPM reads and redirects to a local printer.

hmmm - i had a quick look at this earlier - we have a few server use accounts, and have server 08 - all managed by rdp. Havent seen this issue before. These accounts havent been used on a svr 03 box, or have roaming profiles? Like previous post - check Remote Desktop Users group.

We've also seen this behaviour when dealing with large amounts of data. Also refered to support team. Phil if you are about - any ideas? I know there was supposed to be some Exams updates in the Feb/March release, but Feb was binned - and March is late.

Another thumbs up for ISA here. Thats exactly how we have it set up here.

Another option for Sharepoint schools is the PKS... take a look on http://Codeplex.com/pks

customizing announcements summary view - sharepoint
TheScarfedOne replied to HMCTech's topic in Virtual Learning Platforms
All done in house using Sharepoint Designer. We have also used some community available webparts/solutions. Agree with post above - make sure you ahve a backup of the page you are working on first, eg all our stuff is done on a copy of the page we call beta. Kinda makes sense!! -

Ah... right - if the main body of your post within the annoucement is set to be "Rich Text" (find out by clicking the [>] next to the body text in the item - then the formatting comes from the announcement post text itself (ie. go to the annoucement, and colour the text)... EDIT: On the note of your original post - you can select the individual xsl content items within the webpart and remove them. -

Here you go - the SPD view on that screenie posted last week (sorry - so slow! lame ) !! Basically, once you open up the page with the webpart on it, you can edit the formatting within it - same as Word etc. Highlighted the areas which have been customised here. -

Yes you can... Sharepoint Designer required. You can fiddle about with the webpart layout. The usual font tools are available... -
HP ML110 G5 Server £249.99 They're Back!!!
TheScarfedOne replied to Haptic's topic in Our Advertisers
Can confirm quite a few ppl seem to have in stock at lower price - just spoke to a few of our suppliers who have said they can do the £169 mark. EDIT: We have already bought at least 30 of these machines and no problems on any of them. At that point, the price was stupidly low on HP Promo (which not all disti's passed on). -
Yep - its a pain that one. We ordered it for 2 suites, and wondered why a massive box arrived. We only needed one copy of the media, manuals, and all the dongles! Grrr... so much packaging. Why cant they do a proper network version like Sibelius??

Accessing users files via Sharepoint?
TheScarfedOne replied to rpycroft's topic in Virtual Learning Platforms
Take a look at my blog where Ive talked about this. Essentially, there are two ways of doing this - free and not free. Free - head to Codeplex and look for "User Home". Not free... look up Richard from Salamander, which is a great tool. Been using that here for quite a while. Stuart -

That'll be where I saw them. Good find. The fact that I paid £85 per unit last year as well makes me chuckle!
