I agree, and the £1000 cost for a D1 is outrageous, driving a 16 seat minibus that is smaller than a Luton box van (for which no additional licence is required) shouldn't cost a £1000 and don't get me started on the unfairness of Grandfather rights. Passed your test 31st December 1996 want to drive a 7.5 tonne lorry? Knock yourself out. Pass your test the next day? Sorry you are a liability and have to complete lots of very expensive licences to be safe!

I've just spoken to one of the companies supplying the Lite versions and they reassured me that there are no problems going overweight with the rugby team onboard, of course they would say that but I think one of the 'tricks' they use is to give the buses some basic accessibility capability and that boosts the 3500kg limit to 4250kg.

Those requirements are for the B licence minibuses (usually 14 seats or under) as the weight still has to be under 3500, these Minibus Lites are full 16 seat (17 including driver) but you can drive them on a B licence. Unfortunately 14 seats isn't much use if you need to transport a rugby team!

Has anyone experience of the minibus 'lite' you can buy? Basically the selling point is you can drive it on a B licence rather than having to do the D1 making it attractive to schools as any of their staff passing a car test 1997 onwards don't have the grandfather rights which include D1. They cost more to lease than normal minibuses and I have seen criticisms of them being unsuitable for full loads of larger students as they are put overweight. I think for minibuses weighing in excess of 3500kg GVW (Gross Vehicle Weight) you require a D1 but on one of the minibus lite suppliers pages here they list the GVW of the minibus lite as over 4000kg while demonstrating their greater payload but surely once you reach 3500 you are then in breach of your licence conditions if using a B licence? Is this the company being misleading and instead of you getting 1460KG payload you only actually get 955KG with a B licence or am I not understanding this?? If it is 955KG then 16 Year 11 rugby players will put it well over (assuming average weight of 70kg)?

From someone who went through a similar procedure at my old school even when we listed printers at £10 each trying to sell them to staff very few were interested. We had a company offer us about £50 for 20 printers but even they dropped out. I would suggest some local classifieds/ebay or look for IT re-cyclers in your area.

I'm leaning towards either leaving it as is or using the new admin server as a dedicated SIMS server provided it's other specs are up to it. I can't remember what switches they have off hand but hopefully Vlan will be a possibility.

So one of my primaries has separate curric and admin networks, it was on the summer work plan to flatten these are the requirement for air-gapped networks was no longer there, this would have simplified management and also allowed easy deployment of SIMS to classroom teacher machines. Fast forward to the half term and the school has bought a new admin server and 3 workstations (for the 3 admin users). I don't know the server spec yet but I am assuming as it was only for 3 users it won't be anything special. I was wondering about having it take over some of the curric DC server roles maybe? I don't want the school to have felt they have wasted money on it but the decision seems to have been taken without consultation! The current curric server has an expired warranty just to make things interesting!

If you've got a friendly caretaker who is handy with DIY he might be able to knock something together for you? Failing that eBay has turned up this (with free delivery via pallet)

We had Konica at my old site using their own Docupro software, they were pretty good especially with larger machines and usually were out quickly, we had a couple of problematic desktop printers that they insisted on replacing virtually every part for before they would give us a replacement which was annoying however.

Unfortunately I've checked, they have 6 licences and 6 phones, no spare. I'll push them a bit about the use of ones we buy although the cheapest I've seen 5324s is about £50 each. Thanks for the info about the fixed pricing though.

One of the primary schools we support had Mitel 5324s installed when their VOIP system was replaced thanks to the Leeds Learning Network becoming defunct. I asked the question of their supplier if we could use refurbished Mitel handsets off ebay and what the licence costs for extra handsets would be. They replied that using handsets not supplied by them was 'not an option' and that they charge £75 for a refurbished handset plus licence costs per extra handset was £125 which seems expensive to me. Can anyone share either via pm or on this thread what they pay for licences or been in a similar situation regards the restriction on handset purchasing?

That's perhaps too simplistic a view, the problem is ISIS have been very adept at using social media and people in countries within the ISIS sphere of influence are basically exposed to ISIS propaganda non-stop, eventually it will start to soak in and support for ISIS will grow unless there is some counter to this. That's interesting to know, I have tried the latest cloud managed aerohive cloud management and didn't rate it compared to the Meraki interface so probably won't look to change going forward.

Yes, I'm very happy with it, it's not the swiftest beast but the torque will do the overtaking job and it's really comfy as well. Bloody heavy compared to my F650GS before though!
