  1. Unfortunately I don't have access to an alumni address and none of my family use Spotify! Oh well, £9.99 a month it is.
  2. I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this but does anyone know of any spotify premium discounts either generally via a code or because of being education staff? I know staff at FE/HE establishments can in some cases qualify for Spotify student discount but I can't seem to find anything for Primary/Secondary school staff (or students for that matter). If there aren't any then I will probably take the plunge anyway because I am using it more and more but the limitations on the free version affect me most as I mainly use it on my mobile phone.
  3. Some of these look really cool but some definitely would make you look like a space cadet IMHO! The "Mens Watch Large Face Oversized Three Time Zones Multi Dial Leather Band OM-165" is hideous!
  4. I didn't have any IT quals (well a six year old Level 1 Dreamweaver certificate notwithstanding!) when I started as a tech, most of my experience came on the job and I did an OU degree in ICT part-time alongside it as well. As an ICT manager now I am more interested in the skills (not the same as qualifications!) and personality of a tech. I've interviewed techs that had on paper great skills but it was like talking to a fence post at interview, they simply weren't able to communicate well. Conversely I've interviewed techs that could talk the talk but were very technically weak (one of whom when asked how they would fix a 'no logon servers available' problem gave their first step as rebuild the PC). As advised above I would get a tech job, learn on the job and look at doing a part-time course either with the OU or at a night college.
  5. Amen brother.
  6. My first thought on seeing the receptionist
  7. This. You now get unlimited photo and video storage (if you are willing to accept the resolution limits Google impose) with Google Drive now, I had something like 30GB of stuff which now is all backed up for free.
  8. I think I am ok now but may well be in touch when I have to import next years classes!
  9. If they did the free version of spotify on phones where you could skip tracks it would be awesome, not being able to is maddening but then I suppose you get what you pay for!
  10. Are Necrons still a complete PITA? I always used to get massacred when they resurrected!
  11. Aircraft boneyard
  12. Oh I can see the legal reasons why a school should have the licence I'm just protesting about the addition level of bureaucracy and cost.
  13. Have you googled the software / company name and 'safe harbour' ?
  14. I'm with him on that!
  15. That was the tool I was using, I've actually just managed to get them all done by doing it manually, I didn't have that many left to do.
  16. Have you got a source for this? I thought you could use drones in fairly close proximity to people as long as they are aware of you filming and have had some sort of briefing about it. I think the licence costs are obscene anyway, £1200-£1300 for one person, you go from £500 ish and anyone can fly the drone to nearly £2000 and only the person that has done the course can touch it.
  17. Don't suppose you've got a powershell script for that you can share?
  18. I'm trying to provision Onedrive for students who have never logged in so Teacher Dashboard will work correctly. I've tried the tool available online that they recommend but this only seems to work for the first 6 users in the list at a time. I've also tried Microsoft's Powershell method which runs without errors but doesn't seem to do anything. My user count in Teacher Dashboard remains steadfastly on 1337 when I sync users! Has anyone any method or powershell script they have used which works??
  19. Donated, I went to the Chernobyl museum in Kiev many years ago and it has always stuck with me. I also ended up in a village in Belarus near the Ukrainian border and remember seeing Geiger counter monitors in the ground which certainly made you reflect on how lucky we are we don't have to deal with anything like that!
  20. I can highly recommend Burconix, used them for about 3 years at my old school and looking into bringing them into my new school. They strike a nice balance between something like CC4 and vanilla. Excellent support from them as well.
  21. Just as an update to this, they now have two pricing plans, one free for unlimited teachers (as far as I can see) and a paid extra to get Student Dashboard as well. I am currently trying to set this up but my one criticism is there doesn't seem to be a lot of help getting it working. For example there are no pre-written SIMS reports available for exporting classes, the advice given in the FAQ is basically get the system administrator to do it. We don't have student email addresses in SIMS so once we had got the class lists it took A LOT of faffing trying to get these addresses into a CSV for the 460 odd classes we have. I am considering the paid module but at the moment the sheer ****ache it has taken to set up so far is putting me off doing it every year. Still not got it working correctly but this seems down to Microsoft's provisioning (or not!) of multiple users. I think the whole thing has great promise but needs to be made more slick.
  22. I've certainly seen employers advertise at a certain salary, get very few applications (and the applications they do get are of poor quality) but will just re-advertise rather than considering whether the salary is appropriate. Salary setting seems to be very much budget driven rather than requirement driven.
  23. Just got some quotes back for comparison, on a 5 year 10k mile lease the Lite version is about £100 a month more expensive. To offset that we can send 2 staff at a time for training for their D1 at £1000 for the pair so we could still save a significant amount over the term even having to train a handful of staff. Might be useful info for someone.
  24. Most Luton vans I have seen are specifically for the 3.5 tonne limit market. You can get larger box vans that are 7.5 tonne but they aren't usually referred to as Luton vans.
