We've just deployed 100 of the Microsoft Surface 3's to our staff, having done similar comparisons with iPad's and other Windows tablets. The Surface Pro 4 is a vastly superior product to the Surface 3....however, it does come at an increased cost (which made it not an option for us unfortunately). With the iPad's the lack of integration just made it a not viable option for us.

[ipad] 3rd Party Lightning Cables
Iain.Faulkner replied to Hybrid's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
I tend to buy the amazon branded ones now, really pleased with them never had a problem -
I've been having a few issues with my left knee since my half marathon, quite weird really, you can feel it building as you run and then it clicks and it's really painful and does these really painful clicks if you carry on running (nomrlaly can get to about 5km before it clicks), so I've had a lot of resting the last couple of weeks and very little running. Having had a week off, I went out last night and did 7.1km pain free (5 minute 43 second km's as well) :-) Absolutely delighted to have got so far without any problems. Fingers crossed I should be ok for the Manchester 10km a week on Sunday now :-)

Ok, so I've now tried it using the steps on this page https://kickthatcomputer.wordpress.com/2016/02/21/windows-10-speech-language-missing/#more-1887 working absolutely perfectly now. Just downloaded the language packs into SCCM and now seeing if we can push them out through that. Thanks for all the help with this :-)
-
Not been able to try it yet. We do updates through SCCM so I think it will be slightly different.

Thanks for this :-) Region is set to UK and the only language option is English (UK), keyboard is set to UK QWERTY. Still got the same problem :-( I've also done as you did and tried to install the cab file and got the same error. I've got the same problem as you in that I cannot change the speech settings from anything other than US. As a bit of extra info on this, if you go to settings, system, apps & features, manage optional features I can see that I have the English (US) handwriting pack installed. I believe I need the UK one installing in order for the UK language settings to work, but also believe that this should be installed when the language pack is installed. However, if I then select add a feature it tells me there are no features to install. Additionally, if I look in control panel, language, options it tells me that the language pack isn't available. I thought I'd try another language to see what happens with that, so added italian as an option, however, it looks like the language pack doesn't download. Everything I've read suggests that when you add a language pack, it will be downloaded and added along with the handwriting pack. But I get no message telling me that the pack is being downloaded.

Just thought I'd add to this thread. We've raised three support requests over the last few weeks (by email and phone albeit we had to leave a voicemail) regarding different issues we are experiencing with Impero and haven't heard back from them. We had Impero come in and deliver training to our teaching staff on how to use Impero console as part of an ICT Inset day, and one of the issues we're having is stopping our teaching staff from being able to use that training. They are already losing interest in Impero and all the good work that was done in the training is coming undone due to technical issues. Given the issues we're experiencing and the lack of support, we are seriously having to consider what to do when our renewal comes around.

Thanks for that. We've tried downloading the required language pack (simply English (UK)) and fllowing the instructions but sadly the issue remains the same, as soon as we turn off US keyboard, we lose the ability for handwriting recognition. Looking at Optional features in settings, I've got English (US) Handwriting installed but not UK/GB but I don't seem to be able to install it either.

Morning all, I'm hoping someone can help me with this. We've bought 100 Microsoft Surface 3's for our teaching staff to use as a teaching and learning tool. Problem we're having, is that if we change the keyboard to UK the handwriting feature for the pen becomes disabled. Any suggestions on how to re-enable it? Thanks

Had to take a bit of enforced time off following the half marathon, my legs have taken longer to recover than I had expected. So even though my head is telling me to go for a run, I've had to take a full week off sport. Started again over the weekend with a nice easy 6.3km (average pace 5 minutes 58 seconds) and then out again last night for another 5km, average pace of around 5 minutes 30 seconds. 2 weeks to go until the Manchester 10km, I don't think a sub 50 minute run is achievable due to the enforced time off, but it will be used as a stepping stone for my summer running with the aim of doing the Wigan 10k at the beginning of September in under 50 minutes.

To come so far in such a short space of time is an incredible achievement! Really well done!

We put PoE out across the school last summer and had to replace all our cabs for 600mm deep.

I've been using this site to do a customised Sharepoint 365 site Trouble Ticket Template for SharePoint 2013 - Helping to Prevent Technological Defenestration. worked well when I had it on a standalone sharepoint server and just tweaking it now for sharepoint 365, but looking good so far.

Nice little 5km last night, trying to up the pace now....operation sub 50 minute 10km has started :-) 5 weeks to go until the Great Manchester Run :-)

So...the big day finally arrived. I prepared well last night, kit ready, carbed up in the evening...woke up this morning with a temperature of 38 and a stinking cold :-( was in two minds as to whether or not to run. Took paracetamol and ibuprofen and went to the event...and ran the full half marathon!! 13.1 miles in 2.08:18 :-) delighted to have gotten round given how dreadful I felt this morning (and this evening) :-) Plus raised over £500 for Mind as well :-)

App Inventor - Android Emulator Update
Iain.Faulkner replied to CamelMan's topic in Educational Software
Hi @CamelMan I'm looking at this at the moment as well. From what I've found the "Unable to load update from the App Inventor server" was caused by a URL being blocked by our filter. I unblocked it and the update came across fine. Unfortunately, I haven't found a way of side loading the update as yet either. I have to do the update for each user and then it has to be done on each different PC that the user wants to use App Inventor on (I would assume you wouldn't have this problem if you used roaming profiles on your network though). If anyone has found a way of updating the companion without having to get each user to do it individually it would it would be good to know how you did it. Thanks Iain -
Out last night, managed 9km...i wasn't in pain, but I could definitely feel my hip still :-( Serious confidence issues about running a half marathon at this point :-(

Anyone going to see Stone Computers in Manchester on Wednesday?
Iain.Faulkner replied to Dos_Box's topic in General Chat
I'm booked in to go....but not sure whether i'll make it or not yet :-( -
So, two sets of physio over the weekend and I've been cleared to run. Just some tight muscles which have been well prodded and accupunctured by the Physio. Went out for a 7km run on Sunday, went ok, can still feel the hip but it wasn't painful. Two training runs to go this week, fairly short (10km and 6km) and then the half marathon!
-
So...10 days to go till the half marathon.....and I've got a hip injury :-( Agony walking down corridors...I even had to pop into the staffroom yesterday and have a sit down I hurt so much :-( Booked into Physio tonight, fingers crossed it can be sorted.

Hi Tom, We've just purchased 100 Microsoft Surface 3's and we're using the case below. Microsoft Surface 3 Cases - Quality Pro 3 Cases Online | UAG ? URBAN ARMOR GEAR Honestly, they do add quite a lot of weight to the device but I don't find them to be overly bulky.

SCCM - Imaging New Viglen PC's with Windows 7
Iain.Faulkner replied to Iain.Faulkner's topic in Enterprise Software
Ok...resolved it. Made a couple of minor changes in the bios (using legacy HDD and network card rather than Uefi) and built a new task sequence specifically for UEFI PC's (specifically to format the hard drive) and it worked like a charm
