Nice little 5km run last night and the Garmin is now syncing to Strava!! :-) Took the advice and set it checking for satellites just as i was putting on my shoes, very pleased with how it worked last night :-)

We're using the Ruckus R600 Access Points here in school (installed last summer), in terms of switches we have a combination of the HP 2530-48G and the HP 2920-24/48G POE switches.

Thank you :-) Will have to try and remember that :-)

[windows tablet] Surface Pro4 for students
Iain.Faulkner replied to Gaz's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
Hi, We've just deployed Surface 3's to our teaching staff but don't, currently, give any devices to students. Agreed with @Achandler that the Surface Pro 4's are definitely built better, but the Surface 3's (from my experience so far) are decent value in comparison to the Pro 4's. Again, just to echo AChandler, I would say they are similar in robustness to an ipad. We are currently in the process of configuring a set of these for some of the students in our learning support department. Definitely cheap and cheerful, but adequate for basic use. http://ergo.wpengine.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Hybrid-101-frontimage.png -
It looks pretty good from a first test, it took a little while for the GPS to lock on and for some reason it's not syncing with Strava (think I've set it up correctly), but the stats it's given me look good.

First run out with the Garmin last night, nice 5km run, nothing too strenuous :-)

Just wanted to add my "weight" to this, different things work for different people, I've done slimming world/weight watchers/atkins and even the Paul McKenna approach multiple times and failed at them all. I'm currently doing WeightWatchers again, and been doing it for 3 years now and lost about 7 stone and around 10 inches from my waist, but what is different is the mindset (and although WW has worked for me this time, I have no doubt that others probably would have worked). I now have more reason to lose the weight than I ever had before in the form of a nearly 3 year old little boy who I want to see grow up. To label them silly really isn't helpful.

If you sign up with Sweatshop | Running Clothes, Shoes, Accessories and Equipment and ParkRun you get 20% off everything (I think) :-) Which is how I've purchased mine :-)

I've been growing increasingly irritated using my phone to track my running. Strava on the iPhone just never seems to get it right (when I did my half marathon earlier in the year it said I did the first 3km in 10 minutes!!)....So I splashed out over the weekend..... Bought myself a Garmin Forerunner 235 :-) Hopefully ease my frustrations and get me back on track :-)

Did a nice 5km last night as part of the "Sale Sizzlers" series of running events (one every two weeks for the next couple of months). Really nice flat course, bit damp last night but pleased with a 27 minute 22 second finish time, not a million miles away from my PB at 5km. Hopefully get a bit more into running again now hayfever season is drawing to a close, and will get that pb down to 26 minutes 30 seconds at the next run of the series and maybe down to close to the 25 minute mark by the end of the series :-)

IT & Database Apprentice - Poynton, Cheshire
Iain.Faulkner replied to Iain.Faulkner's topic in Educational IT Jobs
Bizarrely no there isn't one....it's being done through the apprentice academy rather than directly through us and as far as we know they will take applications until the position is filled. -

Lesson booked for next Wednesday! I will sort out this slice with my driver!!

Just wanted to add my thanks to @Michael and everyone else who has contributed to this thread, this is a life saver, why on earth can't it be this straight forward without the need for a 3rd party application? Just a quick one, I've got a student start menu that I am very pleased with, however under "All Programs" I can still see "Accessories", "Start-Up" & "Windows Admin Tools". Any suggestions on how to get rid of these? Thanks in advance Iain

Played in the Saturday comp last weekend, slightly different format to the usual ones....in that it was matchplay against the course, essentially the course played to par, if I shot net lower than par I would win the hole, level par was a half and over par was a loss. Was all even till the 17th & 18th when I played a couple of daft shots and lost by 2 holes :-( Enjoyed the change in format though. Booked in for another couple of lessons though as I'm sick to death of slicing my driver.....I lose far too many shots by not being able to get the ball to go straight off the Tee!!

Impero - 5.3.21 - Issues
Iain.Faulkner replied to 6Foot2's topic in Network and Classroom Management
We've been moved up another version to 5.3.29......and....*touch wood*....it's been much better! Shutdown working again, issues with the logs seem to be resolved as well. -
Did the "Round the Resers" run last night in Tintwistle. Two laps around the middle one of three reservoirs approx 8km/5miles distance. Probably as close as I get to a trail race. Nice run, with one killer hill (which you obviously have to do twice!). Took 30 seconds off my time from last year, but still got lapped by the guy who won it about 20 metres from the end of the first lap (same place as last year)!!!

ergo.co.uk Anyone ever used these?
Iain.Faulkner replied to frazzlesgrant's topic in Recommended Suppliers
I've bought around 700 PC's from them in the last 8 years. Decent PC's, tend to be the cheapest quote I get. Build quality is decent, and it's not very often that we have a problem. Support is decent, normally get an engineer onsite (we tend to get a guy who used to work directly for Ergo and has now set up on his and they contract him back in). -
With regards the gait analysis....I can't recommend it enough, and it will stop you picking up nasty little injuries over time. One thing I am not sure if it has ever been mentioned on here, you can sign up with Sweatshop.com and get a 20% off card if you are signed up as a ParkRunner. Well worth signing up for, I bought myself a second pair of shoes in the christmas sale (Brookes GTS), having paid about £100 for them in the November I picked up the exact same pair of shoes in the Christmas sale for £50 with the discount card!

I think we had something similar when we first put in the vlan's last summer. Might be worth having a look at the solution in here active directory - Can't connect to DeploymentShare$ from PC attempting to MDT, but can other PCs on the network - Server Fault

Braved it back at WeightWatchers last night....3lb's on since I last went a few weeks ago. Official weight set at 16 Stone 3.5lb's which is 21.5lbs heavier than I got to at my lightest. Need to sort this out!

Great effort to be running with the heat the way it is....too hot for me, I suffer from hayfever and am also asthmatic and this time of year renders me utterly useless, so I'm on a bit of a break from running :-(
-
Well due to my campervan failing its MOT, my camping trip for this weekend is now cancelled....which means I've signed up for Captain's weekend instead :-) 2 day competition for a place on the board! Can't wait :-)
-
Well.....we put in budget proposals for the next year and were turned down....so plans for this summer are now probably... Office moves Maybe some deployment of Windows 10

Haven't played in the Saturday competition this week (been away in Chester), but managed to get out for some social golf last night. Played 16 holes in 18 over (handicap of 20) so I'm more or less in the right area, so pretty pleased overall (this included losing a ball in the short rough to the right of one of the fairways...I think the group playing up the next hole played it). Plus in those 16 holes I had 5 Pars and 6/7 1 putts so they were pretty pleasing stats as well. Just really need to get stupid little mis-hits out of my game....example....13th is a short par 4...2nd/3rd easiest hole on the course, nice 5 wood into the middle of the fairway, roughly 100 yards downhill into the green....duffed my first chip 20 yards in front of me, second chip into the greenside bunker, chipped out of the bunker and 1 putt for an unorthodox 5. Plus If I could straighten my driver out, I'd be lethal :-( Certain holes just don't give me any sort of second shot and I'm constantly playing sideways for my second. Might start playing a couple of them with a 5 iron off the tee.
