Exercise caution. If the printers are under warranty I'd say no from the outset UNLESS the toner people guarantee to replace the printer if their toner stuffs it up. (Getting this in writing is key). I found the compatible black toner was fine for our needs but the colour lacked but for the cost savings we made (~40% less) it just made up for it all. Different people will have different views on them but our printers were creaking along, we had very little money to spend on toner so this was OK for us. Mileage may vary of course.

Very much depends upon the type of thin client you are using as several manufacturers offer their own methods. Each to their own on performance though, depends on what you're looking for.

Sounds like the number of DHCP IP addresses it will dish out to local devices. So, in theory it would mean 32 devices would be given IP details on connect to the router. (this wouldn't stop static / manual configuration on other devices up to the size of your subnet allows)

It'll pan out alright, it's a pretty robust implementation. I've done a few 1.9.x to 1.9.9 upgrades recently (albeit on linux) and it's gone fine apart from a few teething issues with 'non standard' modules.

Deep breath. Back up the exact situation at this time. Do you have a back up of the database? If so, restore it and try and upgrade Moodle again, I wonder if something has gone wrong in the upgrade.

The not pingable part is a little worrying (unless there's a firewall configured on it), check the mail headers to be sure you have the correct IP (that you're pinging orwellserver and getting). I would not expect VNC or Telnet to work but would expect SSH on port 22 at the very least. (You can try and telnet to it on port 22 and see if you get an answer but you'll need an ssh client such as putty to talk to it properly).

Did you install the OS yourself or via the HP smartstart stuff? Are you logged into this system locally or have you joined it to the domain?

It does, the standard version allows up to 50 users for free though with caveats on functionality. (Google Apps Standard Edition helps groups build communities - Google Apps Standard Edition) - Though I suspect "businesses" may not be entitled but cannot be bothered to read the terms to check. OK, if you are using Outlook will you be wanting Calendar sharing etc? (we're wandering into the realms of collaborative tools). If not, you could run pretty much any old mail server set up and it would be absolutely fine for that small number of users. At the risk of tipping the scales a bit why are you looking to leave your current solution, what does it not do? I've used hMailServer on Windows for charity deployments (to provide internal mail where no internet connection is available) which auth's to AD and for a bit of mickey mouse software seems to work quite well.

Nothing to stop you using XAMPP for production that I can see.

Can you resolve it the same as your other machines can? What "happens" when you try and go to it? I've known some viruses stop you 'getting' to sites such as that.

As the OP is looking for a business solution I suspect the Live @ Edu product won't fit his needs. Do your clients require webmail or do they connect from their own mail client over IMAP/POP/etc? Is your existing deployment on Windows or Linux? Zimbra is worth consideration but be aware it is quite heavy on resources and if you're looking to serve out a few thousand mailboxes on a basic server (couple of processors/4gb of ram job) you might be better considering something made up of Postfix/Courier IMAP(or Dovecot) and Squirrelmail/AtMail/Roundcube Webmail to suit. Or you could consider Citadel Groupware but you don't want any collaboration tools so maybe not. Tell us a bit more about your infrastructure, user numbers, etc.

I would imagine it is /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-ethX not /etc/network/interfaces if it is a CentOS box. Ric made a good suggestion about changing YOUR IP to match the IP range of the box (assuming the comms team changed YOUR range not the boxes) and then logging in as you would normally. I wouldn't recommend going down this engineer route breaking into the system if you could just change your IP above. Of course, if you don't know the password then I imagine you'll need to contact them or try Ric's single user mode idea.

Sorry I don't know much about IIS7 mate. Advice previously issued on here suggests basing it on a WAMP (Windows/Apache/MySQL/PHP) system for flexibility but I am sure there are some users on II7 running it with no problems.

Look inside the php.ini and check ldap isn't commented out. Are you using Apache or IIS?

Good airflow inside/outside of case. Suitable fan's to facilitate above. Good position of case. Consider the environment it is in as to whether it is going to struggle or not. Would be helpful to know what computer you have and moreso what temperatures you are seeing / heat issues. Hope this helps. Kim

Agree with Steve, a PRF was how we worked 'around' this lack of exchange in my previous place, 150 users in the end, pretty flawless.
