  3. Bikes are better than Cars until you slide sideways into a concrete wall......
  4. I agree about the networking side but it would be nice to be able to have the option to install in a different location. If it could go into the user area then our roaming profiles would allow us to ensure that data is backed up, and that the specific data could move with the teacher onto different machines The fact that is goes to the all users means that we will need to ensure that the data is copied to the network for backup processes.
  5. depends also on what files you are backing up. We have got some devices that are lucky to get a ration of 1:1.2 and others that will run 1:1.9 I used backupassist on a small backup which gives a great report on the ratio being achieved.
  6. He is most likely checking his wages have be paid into his new icelandic bank account lol
  7. I would consider terminal services with the fibre option
  8. 0805-340678 Description: Reminders for First Aid Certificate end dates Notes: Reminder for First Aid renewals not really that essential as this can be run from a report and set within the remonders section of the homepage. 0809-387189 Description: Global messages available from .net login Notes: Could a messaging system for staff logging in to SIMS .net be considered? I have schools who wish to send a message to multiple staff, perhaps all teaching staff, and would like the message(s) to be available when staff are logged in to SIMS .net. At the moment the only mechanism would be to set up a bulletin or a 'Message' category event on the diary. I would agree this functionality would be nice but since it ought to be possible to use external tools to do such a task I don't think that Capita will spend a lot of time on this. Equally there are more essential elemements of Sims that need to be fixed first. I would favour a gp controlled netsend which only allow SIMS machines to receive messages. But even this would not sort out staff that have left their machines at the homepage and gone off to do something else.
  9. is the message a specifically SIMS related message? and are you saying you need to send to teachers almost as a pop up box within sims
  10. have you installed the SIms infrastructure onto the curric workstaions?

  13. When he was with Capita Dan Clarke looked at this and put some stuff on supportnet. I think I have attached this.Release_280.zip
  14. Have you checked on the srver for scheduled activity on or around this time on a friday? set a job to copy the .mdf and ldf to a different location earlier than this has happened, or use a script to backup the database. If you have a fast server this should not take long. Have you checked the event logs for SQL activity of happening on the days (times) in question?
  15. Are you saying that this happens every week on a friday????
  16. can you use external hard drives and switch as required?? Does it really need to be a laptop as a desktop with swapable drives would be ideal
  17. Phil I have complained to the service desk. Regarding the bad information given etc I closed the call with disatisfied. I am awaiting a call to discuss. The call that stayed open I only got a responce when I called in to find out why. It had sat with a team called third party support. I am not normally given to airing in public but have found that recently we are seeing an increase in calls that are dealt with by either data or a suggestion that we should upgrade. I am in no way saying that I don't want to upgrade but would like to have at least a reason for upgrading. It often appears that the request to upgrade is a hope that it may fix a problem with no attempt to work out what had caused the issue.
  18. Personally I am generally happy with the support I get from the Capita Helpdesk. There is nothing more gratifying that discovering a problem, check supportnet and the raising a call as there is nothing on supportnet, only for Helpdesk to joyfully announce that they will search for a solution. Once they also discover that there is no fix available they will raise the call and assure me that an analyst will be in touch. There is normally then the great game of guess the fix!! this seems to involve an analyst sending a solution that may have a slight similarity to the actual issue. Linked to this will be a suggestion that I should upgrade to the latest release or send in the data. Even when I have asked for a call back!!!!!! Other times I raise calls and then get nothing back from the call. I recently had a call that has sat for over 2 months with no actions.
