have a look at the sims.ini and the check the location of the sims directory and the sims .net directory paths. Due to SIMSCentralserver.exe running there can be issues if the locations are the same

if it is inside a duct? or is is it glued down under the tiles?

What were they doing when they got the error??

I had a school with this issue yesterday and we found that the version of SQl is also important. They were running SQL express and even though the database size was well below the 4gb limit, express appears to take and hold all the memory that is available to it(1gb limit). We upgraded to Sql 2005 standard and found a clear speed increase. We also found that the RM server that was being used was using slow hard drives and slow Ram. It may be worth checking what type of Ram you are using

depends who the VLE are. We use Uniservity and they have a tool which can currently upload kids from SIMS. they are also going to be able to create a link that will allow for a 2 way transfer of data for attendance and assesment. In other words teachers should be able to mark online and export the marks to assesment manager and vice versa. Parent will then be able to log into the VLE and see attendance and attainment reports. Obviously this will not happen overnight and will require Uniservity and Capita to work on it to ensure data security. Capita do have a product which can allow parental access to view Sims data and I am sue that Phil can and will be able to sell this more that me.

I would have thought that Capita should allow you to install the august release. As Phil has stated this is not a major release but a minor release! We are not planning to release this to any primary as the only changes appear to affect Secondary schools and exams.

depends on who controls your downloads. If you have a local lea support team then they should be able to release august for you to download using solus.

try "The dude" off this site. We used it to scan our Wan and then monitor each router and server for connectivity.

I would go for a dedicated server Using Windows server 2003 Dual core xeon processor, 2GB Ram (4would be better) and a couple of 250 gb sata discs raided at level 1 Add a dat 72 drive and either using Windows ntbackup or purchase backup exec for windows server. All the above should cost no more that £900-£1000 and will cope with all that a small school would need for the next 3 years or so.

most likely caused by the introduction of the new SIMSCENTRALSERVER.exe which modifies the way that the workstation upgrade process is carried out??

Moral of the story then is not rush to fix problems and leave them for a couple of days. sounds good to me lol

Have you checked the event logs and the available sizes on the root drive

You will need to update the basedata with a version that has been supplied by Capita I think. We have advised schools not to upgrade until they can confirm that the OCR settings are correct
