There really is not a need for an MSI. WHen we are talking about SIMS .net we have some generally good tools currently available to deploy the product and the future look better with the solus 3.(Yes Phil this is me saying this!!!) The main problem comes with additions to SIMS either in house or third party. The in house products need to become more integrated to sims to ensure that backups can al be done via solus using the same processes. The third party issues are a problem because in reality PARS and others do not need to worry about Census as they are being used to either record or enhance use of specific area's. If PARS were to actually try to develop a MIS of their own then I would expect to see a similar number of upgrades. Even those MIS's that offer a browser based solution need to work with the DCFS at census time. Equally they are normally forced to use IE only and the various plugins

Don't see any reason to reboot the server!! that might have been true during the common platform days but certainly is not the case now. Equally have you not configured solus to run automatically at night? even with pars it should be possible to stop the pars service by script and then run solus re starting pars afterwards. In my experience pars should not need to be upgraded evry time that sims is upgraded either

Perhaps the best way forward is to assume that there will be a release every month, which will be released late in the month and delayed. If we do this then we can be please on the months when there actually is no release and ready when there is one

We are going to have to release this to all of our schools due to fixes for Attendance, datafeeds and attendance reports. Since the product is not now going to be released until COB on Monday 12th we will be unable to even spend time testing this due to the team constraints with Census and the limited time to allow census returns to be posted to collect. We will therefore only have time to look at the December Release on the WB 26th January. We ussually then allow 5 days for us to test the effects of the rlease and make sure we are happy with the release before we distribute to our schools. Therefore we are now looking likely to be delivering a december release in February!!!!1:mad:

That does seem to be a strange way of working In my authority we have solus scheduled to run every night at different times for different schools to ensure that all database upgrades take place overnight. This means that any workstations upgrades will take place when the users login the next morning. Matt40k is also right that a terminal server option make this even easier as the server is upgraded once and all users are then on the correct level

I would create a MSI for the package into which you should be able to put the product key.

Have to be honest I prefered the old days when we used the seasons which allowed us more time to explain to the schools that an upgrade was coming out. I have also been vocal before that if a month is used then it would be really helpful to have the release available at the start of the month!

To be honest for about £350 you can get a good 32" lcd tv these days. Most are offering about the same quality and it would depend on personal preference and what you want to do with it. If you have a PS3 or Sony Home theatre then the Baravia is the best option. I also noticed that Tesco's are doing a different bravia now for £350
