I will tend to stay in Edugeeks in the background all the time I am at work. Got to admit that lately I have found topics like this mildly interesting but mostly pointless. I use this site to help in my day to day work as there are often questions that arise from all the schools I support that I don't always know the answer to. Equally there are things that I may have though about doing which I can get info on. I am also more than happy to post replys to problems that others are having, as a problem shared is a problem halved. The moderation on the site is of no real concern to me although I love the fact that this is such an open site. If there are questions regarding the income streams that the site generates then they are of little worry to me as I would expect someone to have to run the whole thing

Things can only get better for this mighty club(my Club). Seems like it was only yesterday that we were in this position before when Terry venables bought the club for £1.00 and then took us to the brink of ruin. perhaps of the the questions that may be interesting to ask is how many companies are actually involved in this move that Capita are being anti competitive. I read with interest the Bromcom have presented their case to the OFT as stated in SIMAY's response but how many other companies that are also listed as either Partners or Technical Partners have also complained to the OFT. Whenever this issue arises it seems that only certain companies are mention both here and in the press which is interesting given the number of companies that are listed as partners at all levels on the SIMS website.

I have setup our schools to use Terminal services and then control the screen saver to lock the screen. The whole question of secure access in the classroom requires serious consideration in my opinion. There is a real need for teachers to really understand what is on screen and who can see that data. I have often gone into schools and found a machine logged on at the front of a class with outlook open!!

I have a couple of WIndows 2003 srevrs with Intio INI-9xxx scsi cards and Seagate Dat72 tape drives. Periodically I find that the nbackups fail due to the tape having a RED cross through it in Removable storage, which is fixed with a full cold reboot of the server. Anyone else seen this or come up with a better fix?

when you say Add new users from SIMS db do you mean that you want to extre=act a current list of children and then use AD tools to import them and create logins?

I would have thought that a query the looks at the SIMS data is not banned at all. Last time I spoke to Capita they confirmed that lookingh at the data is not banned but adding to or making changes is. The problem is that if you don't go via the buisness objects then you will have to identify the table structure first, and Capita do have a tendancy to change the structure

don't see any reason why that setup should cause any problems. We have a couple of AMD based servers and these cause us no problems at all.

1.put the choke in and turn the car over without touching the accelarator. 2.Then slightly apply the choke and gental use of the accelarator 3. Sell the car and get a modern car without a choke!!!!!!

I have used a couple of wirless headphones, be aware that they can be affected by any wireless devices nearby ie taxi's. You will prob also find that they have a linited number of channels that they can use (mine have 4)

place in a metal box next to the school boiler plant and leave for a while. One of my schools used to do this with HDD's and tapes

solus 3 is still in it's infancy and does not easily handle different domain but should do in the future. SIMS generally does what we ned it do and the support team will try to fix issues as they are identified.

I have a kensington docking station on my laptop which includes an addition vga connector, ethernet and four USB ports
