  1. Did you get many applications for this one in the end?
  2. Things like Outlook Express, Windows Media Player, Accessories Folder show up in the start menus along with everything that should be there! I thought it might have been something to do with the "default user" or "all users" profile but after deleting the start menus in there they continue to show up when logging on with another user (even one I've not logged on with before). Not a major issue just an annoyance. Any ideas?
  3. I'm calling troll on this one.
  4. I created a "Windows XP base image" a few months ago and have used it as the base for about six different laptop images. All it has on it is Windows and Office. I tried to make a seventh image last week, installed the base image fine and I'd put on the drivers. Then as soon as I tried to update it threw up the issue of apparently not having service pack three on it despite the fact all other images made from this base image were working 100% fine with windows updates. Not back in for two weeks but I'll try some of the methods given out in this topic when I do and will let you know how I get on. Never had the issue before and looks like I'm not the only one who has started having troubles. Definitely something strange going on.
  5. Just noticed that. I'll send a PM and ask for more details on the lodgings. Would be nice to move back down south again.
  6. Why do jobs like this never come up near me!
  7. Just ditto what the other two said. RangerInstall for... installation funnily enough. ReangerRemove for... uninstalling. There is a third one called "rangersetup" as well which gives you a more comprehensive list of options and whatnot which is the one I'd recommend.
  8. Yup. Member of the System Manager Group. Going to give them a call.
  9. I've added some new staff members as users on SIMS. They were already on, just needed to make them actual users and give them a username and password etc. Anyway I did the first 10 or so and then on the 11th I get the follow error when I try to change the username to match the one we use in AD. The EXECUTE permission was denied on the object "db_pix_droplogin", database "sims", schema "SIMS". Has anyone encountered this before and if so what did you do to rectify it? It's also stopped me from being able to change any other ones as well. Including the ones I've already changed. I'll give Crapita a call in the morning but thought I'd ask on here first.
  10. We had an issue with the search suffix being deleted from our tcp\ip settings. Or rather an entry being made that erased the default. Do a search for "SearchList" under regedit and see if it exists and if it does what it's been set as.
  11. Found the problem! It was Windows Firewall. DOH.
  12. Yes to all four! I was wondering if the error was with me using Windows 7 but same issue on a XP machine. Using Office 2007 but I dobt that's the issue even though the file is meant to be used on 2003. *sigh*
  13. Boot image here is 870meg. Think I just took it straight from the Windows 7 install disk.
  14. I used the spreadsheet last year and it worked perfectly but I'm getting an error with it this morning while trying to add the new users for September. That happens whenever I click on any of the links on the Start Page. The error message I get is - "COMPILER ERROR IN HIDDEN MODULE: Module1". I was hoping someone else has had this issue before and managed to solve it otherwise I'll have to look into something else to create our new users. Thanks in advance,
  15. Right all sorted. Uninstalling and Reinstalling seems to have fixed the issue. No doubt it will go ***s up again when we upgrade to the summer release but for now the exams officer is happy!
  16. I assume we're talking about profiles here and not group policies being applied (or not as this topic might be!). Are we saying when they log on that the profile is different to how it should be? When a user logs on for the first time they will create new profile with a copy of the "default user" profile. The issue might be that the "default profile" hasn't been set right and when users log in and create a new profile that they are picking up the wrong settings? Just because you change things under the local admin doesn't necessarily mean the default user profile is updated! The way I do it is to create a new local user and log in as them. Change all the settings to have them appear as you want them for the other users when they log on. Then log out. Log on as local admin. Copy the contents of the new users profile to the "default user" profile and now whenever anyone logs on they'll pick those up.
  17. For what it's worth if I lived closer I would have applied long as you'd go upto about 19k and it had good progression prospects. Moving back down south would be nice but have too many commitments to be able to justify it though
  18. vivo miles?
  19. Like FN-GM says zipped files aren't the most difficult things to break into. The most secure way is, as FN-GM says, full encryption using something like truecrypt or axcrypt which is what we use here (personally find axcrypt easier myself). If you dont want to use those then even using WINRAR instead of a ZIP file is more secure way but would definately recommend truecrypt or axcrypt.
  20. We had a SIMS engineer in yesterday to upgrade our FMS databases. We had an issue with some users not being able to use the FMS Database Selector and his recomendation was to just let those users be local administrators which personally I don't want to do. I don't know what it is about SIMS but I can't think of any other piece of software we run where the recommended course of action to fix an issue is to make the affected users local administrators...
  21. Morning guys, We've had a few issues recently with the Exams Officier not being able to access Exams Organiser. She can use it on their computer just fine but when they try and access it from home through the Terminal Servers it throws an error stating "Automation Error". Few threads talk about permissions but I've given the user full permissions on the exams folder. No luck. Others say reinstall SIMS but not too keen to do that if I don't have to. Any ideas?
  22. Hi guys, Currently trying to help out one of the assistant heads with an issue they have with Nova T4. I have very little experience with Nova T4 so you will need to bare with me. They are trying to "LOAD CURRICULUM AND TIMETABLE FROM SQL". They click the "SQL" button the tool bar and basically follow it from there. They enter in their reference date and then their logon details only to be greeted with an error message stating "No data found for given date". My first thought was they were using the wrong reference date however they've assured me that they are using the correct one. Which is why I've currently got a call open with DOTict and am awaiting a callback. Anyone else dealt with this before? B
  23. Hi guys, School has just purchased five iPads just to trial with a view to possibly getting a complete class set in (where they got the money I'll never know). What can I expect in terms of managing them? From what I've experienced with my own iPod and from what I've heard... each device is pretty much stand alone and if you want to do something on all of them then you need to manually configure them one by one. So say you want to install an app across a class set of 30 iPads. How easy is it to do? Installing it on each individual device would be a nightmare!
  24. We've used the Wisesoft Spreadsheet for a few years and never had any issues.
  25. Hi TheCrust, As well as settig the Recovery Mode to simple as above you can also edit the database properties to limit the size of the T-Logs. You can manually truncate the T-Logs with a T-Sql command and then set the size of the T-Logs under database properties to something manageable like 1GB.
