For what it's worth I always found it easier to set the start menus by folder redirection in GPOs rather than pee about with "default user" \ "all users" start menus. That way you can start from blank and only add what you want as opposed to fiddling around trying to remove things that are going to affect all users logging on.

Going to sound obvious but can you pin your DHCP server when logged onto the workstation?

Don't know anything about FOG but we use WDS here and will be moving to MDT whenever I get the time to sort it out. The reason I like the look of MDT so much is that you don't have to create multiple images for multiple machines. We have about 5 or 6 different models of computers here each with different hardware. Under ghost we used to have multiple images due to different drivers \ software requirements which was a pain in the arse to maintain. With MDT you don't really need a base image and instead rely on task sequencing. You keep all your applications \ OS \ drivers in a library on the server and create a task sequence which is essentially something that you say "Right I want this OS, these drivers and these apps installed when this computer connects". If we wanted to say stick in the most recent version of flash player on Ghost images we had to deploy the image, update the flash player and capture it again multiple times depending on how many images you have. With MDT you simple add it to the "library" change the task sequences quickly and then it's ready to go in just a few moments as opposed to the hours it would take to update 7 or 8 ghost images.

wireless network key, can it be set via group policy?
Sam_Brown replied to RageRiot's topic in Windows Server 2008
This is what we use as well. It's especially useful on images for Windows XP laptops as you can run it at first boot to enable the WiFi settings which are normally lost via SysPreping the base machine. -
Is it that it's not connecting to the new one at all or just that the old one is loading first? If it's still loading the old one you will need to change the PXE response times in the server properties so that the new one responds quicker than the old one. This was one of the issues I had when migrating over to a new server. If it's not this let me know and I'll try and think of something else.

I managed to get it sorted yesterday using something similar. I was worried I'd done something stupid but the SQL I used looked the same as the SQL in the batch file so I can sleep easy tonight

It was set to full. Although as a temporary solution I've turned it to Simple. At least until the boss gets back.

8.0.2 Admin Kit 2k8 SQL

Believe so. I've copied the log file now for safe keeping and truncated the original so it's down to 188MB as opposed to 120GB but I'm worried it's going to grow again over night! It just shot up from 60MB to 178MB in a few minutes! I've no idea why it's going up so quickly though. Kind of worrying.

Hi guys, What's the safest and best way to shrink MSSQL log files? One of our databases Log files has just hit 120gig and the HDD it's on is almost out of space!

Installed Kaspersky Admin Kit bout three weeks ago and it stopped working today. Log files on the SQL Server are now 118GB and rising. Disk now only has 10meg free on it! A) How do I decrease the log files? B) How do I stop it happening again? C) Is this why I can't get the Admin Kit working?!?! Thanks in advance

Morning guys, Quick Question. A few laptops here have started getting the wrong DNS Suffix Search List meaning it can't find machines without using their FQDN. It used to be XXXX.XXXX.northants.sch.uk but now only shows up as XXXX.northants.sch.uk. Three parts really. 1. How do we change the DNS Suffix of the rogue machines? 2. For my own learning where are the DNS Suffix normally set? GPO? DNS Server? 3. Anyone had experience with DNS Suffix dropping parts "randomly" on certain machines only? Any ideas? Thanks in advance,

I've used them before a few years back in 2006ish. Had no issues with them for about two years then they messed up an order and it took me six months to get it sorted! Ordered two hard disks but they only sent one and the amount of trouble I had getting them to send me the other one was rediculous. At one point I heard nothing for three months and couldn't get throguh on the phone and wasn't getting any responses on my tickets. Turned out the previous person dealng with me had left and no one took over my case! The main issue I have is customer service. Impossible to get through on the phone. Takes them ages to respond to tickets. When you finally do get through to someone you only get a pre written response nine times out of ten. It's a gamble to get things with them. The amount of money you save on your first nine purchases with them is probably no way near enough to warrant the stress and time spent trying to fix it if they **** up on the tenth. From reading other sites looking for help when they screwed up my order it seems they grew too big too quickly and couldn't handle the increased business. Didn't have enough staff and never had items in stock even if they said they did on the website. They only one or two people in customer support and it really showed. Hell... you know a site is crap when it has its own dedicated hate site... http://www.ebuyersucks.org/

I've instructed exams not to upgrade until after the exams to avoid any issues with upgrading the workstations! I think if you decline it once it doesn't pop up again until it's mandatory. That's the plan anyway. Chances are they'll find a way to screw it up and force us into upgrading everything 15 minutes before the next exam!
-
We had the same issue with them not telling us or giving us about 6 hours notice. Fortunately for both of us they've learnt that if they don't tell us in advance chances are the exams aren't going to work! All it takes is a 30 second e-mail a few days before and it can save no end of trouble.

The way I do it is just to install XAMPP on a server somewhere, set up MRBS on it and then using DNS setting to point any requests for "bookings.XXXXschool.com" to that server. Obviously that will only work internally but we've never had any calls to set it up externally.
-
We're using IMAP for authentication and I was wondering how we'd go about stopping students from logging in on our MRBS implementation? All staff accounts have the prefex "ST" here so I suppose if there was no built in way you could edit the coding to check whether or submitted username was prefixed by "ST" but I'm not that au fait with PHP so was wondering if there were any easier options?

We've set up the room booking system on a period system as opposed to times. (P1, P2, P3, P4, Lunch, P5, Afterschool) That way we don't rely on actual times and it makes for better reading as well. Best way I can think of you keeping your current system and blocking booking for a particular time of day is just to set up a repeating entry during the times you want booking to be unavailbe (assuming people can't edit it). There may be other ways but this is how I would do it.

I scored 63.

We purchased some hi capacity toners for it at £134 each. Each toner does about 12,500 pages so you're looking at... 13400 \ 12500 = 1.07p per page (not taking into account paper cost but that's charged to departments here anyway).

Ah sorry. We've got a few of the smaller 3015 models as well. Never had any issues with them either. HP LaserJet Enterprise P3015 Printer (CE525A) specifications - HP Small & Medium Business products

HP P4015 are pretty awesome. We've got a few in and not had any issues in the last six months whatsoever.
