Where can I get the demo from?
-
Has anyone actually seen any screenshots or demos of Moodle 2.0 in action? Info on it seems very scarce.

We look like we might be getting frog in here sometime in the couple of months. I don't suppose anyone knows of any eBooks or normal books to do with Frog which I can read up on while waiting for everything to be pushed through? Sam

Hi guys, As it stands the only SCORM content supplier that has stood out is BOARDWORKS although that's mainly down to not knowing what others are out there. I was wondering which SCORM content suppliers the members on here have had experience with and the pros and cons of them. Thanks for any help you're able to give me. Ben

Anyone here used IT's Learning as their VLE?
Sam_Brown replied to Sam_Brown's topic in Virtual Learning Platforms
Sounds like an offer I can't refuse. I used to live in Leicester for a while so it would be nice to pop up sometime. We're pretty busy up to Christmas but I'll send you a PM sometime in the new year if we're still hot for IT's Learning. -
I was quite impressed when they came in to give us a demo. Although we didn't get to have a go ourselves.

With the hosted setup and the fact it's a live connection do you have any issues with it slowing down your network at all or are the overheads pretty negliable? If we do go with SLG it will most likely be for the hosted version because no one here knows SharePoint and it seems to be better to let sims manage and support everything as opposed to us running and trying to maintain yet another system in the school. Any input will be helpful

As it stands right now we should be getting a new VLE in sometime in the next month or so. Now we've been given a deadline of September 2010 to get everything up and running and I'm not sure how feasible this is. So what I want to know is... What VLE are you running? How long from confirmation with the VLE supplier to them actually installing the VLE? How long after the VLE was installed and set up did it take to have everything set up as you wanted and populated with all the course notes etc. Thanks in advance.

Basically I took over a moodle isntallation that's about 6 years old. From time to time moodle will go down and it will come up with the error message "Error: Database Connection Failed" I'll restart the server and everything is all good. Are there any logs I can view to see if there is anything that happens just prior to the issue? It seems to happen every two weeks or so so I'm thinking there is something setting it off and I'm not 100% wau fait ith Moodle so want to make sure the issue isn't there.

Concept 24\7 came up to us a few weeks ago and I was nothing but impressed with them. If we do decide to go with Moodle as our VLE I think we'll almost certainly be looking to use ParentPortal supplied by "4\7.

Surveys and getting to the information submitted.
Sam_Brown replied to Sam_Brown's topic in Virtual Learning Platforms
Probably best to do it on here because it might help others in the same situation! Ideally we'd be wanting to make it so the surveys are restricted and where students can only take the test once. I think you can do this using "tokens" but was wondering how you actually go about generating the tokens (as opposed to making them manually for each student!). Can you do it through AD or CSV perhaps? Also is it easy enough to set up groups for example results by year group or by class? Thanks in advance Sam -
Surveys and getting to the information submitted.

Survey Monkey looks a little bit more like what we're after. I also cqame across something called Lime Servey as well which we could install on our web server. Lime Survey also allows you to create "invites" based on active directory which is cool. I'll give all three (moodle, lime, monkey) a look over over half term and see which one takes my fancy. thanks -
Fairly new to Moodle. Basically been tasked to create an online survey of sorts. Basically a list of questions which the students answer. I assume this is fairly easy to do in moodle which we already have set up. The survey is mainly going to be based on what extra curricular activities students get upto and what they do in their out of school time. Anyway once the survey is taken I will need to make some reports (such as most popular activites, how many students do 2 or more activities etc etc) based on the surveys. So are there tools to do this as well or will I need to take the information directly out of the database using SQL queries? Also are there modules that come as standard with moodle to do this or will I need to install one myself. Thanks in advance... Sam

Variety of things really. As it stands at the moment it's really just icons for the different subjects such as art, maths, science...

School website is in need of some updating and as I'm not the most gifted person when it comes down to creating icons \ images I was wondering if anyone here knows of any decent online repositories where I could find some free icons and images that would be useful on a school website. Thanks in advance Sam

So in the progress of looking at VLEs and Parent Portals. We've had the a few companies in but obviously they are only going to talk about the good things and not mention the bad. So I'm just hoping it would be possible if anyone here works at a School in the northamptonshire area if we could come in and have a look at what you've done with your vle. The ones we'd be most interested in would be schools that have... Frog Fronter LP+ and of course Moodle with some kind of parental access portal. If anyone has any ideas or would be kind enough to let us come in for a chat and look and play with there VLE we'd be very greatful. Thanks in advance Sam

School I work at needs a "parent portal" up and running by start of the next school year. I realise that we're in a similar position to a lot of other schools at the moment and I was just wondering what other peoples plans and experiences were with setting something up. From what I can gather as I've not been given too much info on exactly what management are looking for. We are after someway parents can log in from home and acess their childs attendence, grades and behavior stats. We use SIMS at the moment although upto today I've had little to no dealings with it whatsoever but I'm assuming there is technology availble which will enable parents to view the data on the net or possibly even better have it intergrated into the new VLE we're looking to get up and running some time in the future. So meh... opinions, ideas, experiences? Better to keep two seperate systems or try and intergrate it with our new VLE? Or perhaps something else I'm missing. Hope you guys can help a noob.

I've rang LP+ several times over the last couple of days to try and get a demo arranged by so far I'm still waiting for them to get back to me. I'll give Tony a buzz and see if he can sort anything out so thanks for that. If anyone else has any experience with setting up something from scratch I'm all ears though.
