Morning guys, Was wondering if anyone had any decent alternaitves to Windows Movie Maker? We've used it before but it's been a bit flaky. All suggestions are welcome!

Afternoon guys, Trying to install Server 2k8 on a sunfire 4500 but don't have the required storage drivers to be able to detect the hard disks during installation. Does anyone know where I could find them or had this trouble before?

It's hidden by default. You'll need to enable hidden files and folders in the folder options.

Is this the same job that was advertised a few months back? I think I missed the deadline before but I'd be happy to apply on time this time! Any idea about salary?

Morning Tony, I've raised a request with the service desk, they asked that I sent some example e-mails over and hopefully they will be getting back in contact with a support reference number which I'll hopefully be able to e-mail you in the next half an hour or so. Just to add to the original issue; Today I've had one member of staff forwarded to me a rejected e-mail that had the same error message as I got yesterday regarding the IP address being blocked by an anti spam site. Although worryingly a different spam site this time! Also, probably a coincidence but we've had a few members of staff at the school here, and the local primary I work at, complaining about e-mails being rejected over the last few days or not getting through at all. E-mails being sent to addresses that up until a few days ago used to go through perfectly fine! Like I said, probably a coincidence in a lot of cases but something to bare in mind. Afternoon all, Just tried to reply to a supplier I'm looking to order some items form only to have the e-mail returned from [email protected] with the following error message: 553 Message rejected - see invaluement Anti-Spam Blacklist, a DNSBL or DNS Blacklist | ivmSIP, aka "rbl" | ivmURI, a uribl like surbl.org We've been using these suppliers for a few years now and today out of knowwhere this strange error message is coming up! Anyone got any ideas as to why it's being rejected? I'm not sure if it's the EMBC side or the suppliers side but seeing as the e-mail was coming from [email protected] thought I'd try here first

I know very little about profiles so excuse my ignorance. Don't a lot of programs require data to be stored in the "app data" area of the users profile? Wouldn't not having a profile cause some issues with with either users having to change settings for various programs every time they log in or some programs failing to run because there is no where to save certain files?

Morning guys, I was just wondering what different stratergies people use to try and keep log on times down at their schools? We are currently using roaming profiles and offline folders for their home area. Years ago this was fine and worked well. HOWEVER over the last few years we've seen profiles start to get larger and larger as well as teachers starting to work more with multimedia files like videos and music. End result of this is having user profiles that are often many gig in size taking the users sometimes upto 20 minutes to log on and off. With the home areas often containing videos and large collections of music it also means if a teacher logs on to a laptop for the first time it can take a long time for the initial synchronization of their home area to complete. In one instance with one of the drama teachers it took her almost 5 hours for all her video evidence files to be sync'd fully. As we're pushing out new laptops to a fair few staff it's starting to become a big issue with logon times and initial sync times. I was just wondering how do other schools set up their systems with regards to profiles and their home areas on laptops in order to try and keep logon times down? Ideally I'd get rid of all the bloddy laptops and just stick a fat client in each room connected to the projector but seeing as how engrained the laptops are in the school that's not going to happen!

See what the "all users" and "default user" profile on the local machine is. If that profile is massive then chances are it's going to cause the users own profile to grow to be quite large as well! Find a user who hasn't yet logged onto the new machine. See how big that users profile is before they log on to the new machine and then again what it is when they've logged off and their profile has finished being uploaded back to the server.

Morning all, Seen a thread on A2C already but this one is slightly different and I'm stuck right at the start! Need to put in the locations of the EDI Inbox \ Outbox and Archived folders. Does anyone know where these would normally be located or how I can find out what they are currently set to? Afternoon all. I'm working at a primary school and at the moment and have been tasked with purchasing a new UPS as the old one is on it's way out. I was wondering what to look out for when buying a new UPS and which ones would be suitable for the servers here. At the moment we have two servers, one for RM CC3 and one for the Admin domain. We're looking at upgrading from CC3 to CC4 and getting a new server in and possibly using the old CC3 server as a backup store meaning in total we'll probably end up with 3 servers in the not so disant future. I've been looking at the rack mounted APC Smart UPS series as these are the ones I have at my main school although am unsure which one should get. They are rated from 1000 upto 3000 and I'm not too sure what would be adequate for 3 servers to run off. Does anyone recommend these UPS'? If not what would they recommend and what rating would be good to handle 3 servers?

Is this possible at all? I'm having issues installing a piece of software on a CC3 workstation and the tech support for the software in question says it needs to be installed as a local admin! A second issue is I need to access the services MMC from a workstation but it's been disabled! What's the best way to let me access this? I'm logged on as systemadmin and it still doesn't let me

I know how to add it to the start menu. It's fairly easy to do and I did it today for the first time. Basically the start menu is generated at logon time depending on what "program sets" have been allocated to the user or a group the user is a member of. Each program set will have different shortcuts in it. You might have a "teachers" program bank containing teaching tools while the "students" program set would contain everything the kids need access to. * First we need to copy the shortcut we want to the following location, this make it available to allocate to a program set: G:\RMDelivery\Group Resources\Shortcut Bank Now we have to allocate it to a program set: * Log onto the RM Management Console and go Resources > Program Sets. * Right click and create a new program set. * Name it then click the "shortcuts" tab and select "shortcut bank" from the drop down list. The shortcut you want should be in here. Add it. * Go to the "groups" tab and add the groups you want to see the shortcut (which is now in the program set you just created). This will probably be the "teaching staff" group. * Click ok and it should do it's thing now when teachers log on they'll get whatever shortcuts you just added to that program set appearing in their start menu. Small network with a old crappy CC3 DC and okish workstations. Got a new bit of software I tried to install and as part of the install it installs a SQL Express Server. Everything else goes fine but the SQL service for the database just will not start whatsoever! I've tried to three normal accounts from the drop down list to start it, Local Service, Network Service or Local System and all 3 fail. Also tried no end of different users, systemadmin, user with advanced rights and any others I could think off and still would not work. Added them locally to the SQL_Server_%Instance Name% group that was created and no luck. Can't do advanced user editing locally as it's disabled by GPO and even systemadmin doesn't give me access to change it! Anyone come across this issue before?

Had a similar issue with an old laptop. In the end I created a Windows PE CD and stuck the windows version of Ghost on it. Picked up USB hard disk everytime with that.

This is something that sounds really basic and yet I can't figure it out for the life of me. In programs like Word I want to stop students \ teachers from going to File > Print and changing the printer properties. I'm trying to stop (some of them) them from printing everything in colour. Under the printer security I've taken away the permission to manage the printer and this means that everything is grayed out if they go to Printer Properties under "Printers & Faxes" on the start menu. However they can still get at the Properties window within the Printer Properties button when in Word \ Excel etc and change it to colour. Any suggestions? Sounds simple, stop kids and staff from accessing printer properties but in reality i can't figure out how to do it. CC3 network if that helps :/

Hi guys, Boss recently put more memory in the SQL server. Upped it from 8GB to 16GB. Since then it's been running incredibly slowly Looking at performance and there is only 56MB memory free (1GB available though). SQL server is taking up over 15GB and other normal processes are taking up the rest. I am assuming this isn't normal behaviour?!?! If not best way to fix it as the boss is currently away.

Hi guys, Was looking for some advice on some music software for our Music IT suite. Have been given the following requirements: 1. Use the midi keyboards 2. Ready made loops like Garageband 3. Recording with midi kbds to create own loops for use in the same way as pre-recorded ones 4. Recording performances (keyboard only as well as using with the mixing board) 5. Possibilities – cubase again but a different version? Cakewalk or fruitloops or reason? I've been looking around and seen a few suggestions - Cubase, Fruitiloops, Reason, Cakewalk but also noticed most of these either don't play well on networks or the network version is prohibitively expensive. Anyone got an experience with music software and could recommend something that works well with student accounts?

Hi guys, We have a load of old laptops here and was wondering if anyone knew of a clean and easy way to turn them into TS Clients? Heard a rumor there was a micro edition of windows that came with just an RDP client but not found anything on google so probably a wild goose chase. I have heard of the posibility of using some flavours of Linux in order to do this though and wondered if anyone had any experience or advice on them? Thanks in advance,
