Hmm. Lancs have done their schools a disservice then, as their review puts the role lower than other parts of the country which have been regraded - even here in Cornwall! (Here I'd expect that level to be alongside a Senior Tech or Assistant Network Manager at a push) I suppose when you bring in factors like cost of living / location etc, perhaps things equal out?

The answer would probably break the golden rule of what not to discuss in the Job Forum?

If you are doing it on a Mac then you can use Real Player to record screen casts (not 100% sure about using the same software on PC though) For PC I've always used CamStudio - Free Screen Recording Software

If you are one of the technicians then yes.... Unless they are going to regrade you all and fairly redistrubute the roles of the NM around, with appropriate pay adjustments? I would assume your contracts currently read along the lines of 'support the network manager' on several points. If there isn't one to assist, it will lead to an imbalance. When I was first starting out, this was the main discussion point for me moving up to Assistant NM and then NM. It's fairly easy for the powers that be to understand - you can't assist / follow the direction of someone who doesn't exist.. and they can't expect you to assume that level of additional responsibility without adjustment.

Several fairly/very harsh replies here. Oddly from people I remember falling over themselves to help the troubled @AXE throughout his ridiculously long cry for help. Double-standards... @MelodicBrush, with the above comment made, the bit I would agree with people is you need to help yourself. No one is going to do it for you, it just isn't that kind of world. Hard times seem difficult when you're in them, but when you work hard to get out of them yourself you can look back later and be proud at how you did. In the short term, your money worries are probably easy to fix - flog something (xbox/ps3?) and you'll easily be able to afford the exams, which will then improve your prospects. I suspect if your family see you investing in your own future they may be willing to wait a while longer before they are financially supported... but don't expect a free ride forever!

I haven't used the CSE products since the CAL4 days, but I would assume it is still the case that you would need to tweak GPO's. I found them to be quite receptive to in-house change, so wouldn't expect them to throw their toys out of the pram if/when they find out (as RM might have!)

I'm not sure if this is the same thing or not, but a subscription/ees-style offering has been made available to us for at least a couple of months - info sent out by Phoenix Software as well as Softcat (I think)

Sadly never seen the error itself, or managed to get anyone to give me a grab of it. Students password issues are taken with a hefty pinch of salt, but this issue has happened to various misc staff / smt / governor accounts. All very odd.

If that is the only comment to be offered then it isn't good enough! RoF was spot on with her comment about 'valued' community. I fail to see any recognition of value. What is so difficult about saying "xx was compromised/stolen", "we think xx was compromised/stolen", or even the very honest "we haven't got a XX clue yet, sorry, bear with us!". Any is better than silence.

Quite! As we're all in the same business (vaguely!) the majority of us are probably fairly sympathetic, which I am too, but I'm not impressed that we were promised updates and have received nothing. If you look at the time which has gone by, you have to wonder whether it's a case of they don't know at all or just haven't found out yet...

Hi All, Bit of a strange one here which I'm hoping I might be able to get some help on. We have a strange intermittent problem where users are reporting their passwords have expired / are not working. Initially we had a password expiration policy but we altered this a good month or two ago and have gpupdate on the DC etc. The issue seems to be more prominent for OWA users and/or RDWeb users (that may just be coincidence or me dreaming it!) I'm interested to know what else you think this could be? If it helps, the set up here is: Windows Server 2008R2 on all servers including RDS, Win 7, Exchange 2010

As well as my comment/recommendation above, my advice would be to sign up to as many free trials as possible of the ones listed. Lots seem to look good when you see the features / screenshots, but in practice fall short. Find something that fits.

OK. My slight stab in the dark then... Locate the user in Active Directory Users and Computers. Click View -> Advanced features Right-click on the User and click Properties Click on the Security tab Click on the Advanced button Tick "Include inheritable permissions from this object's parent" Close everything down and re-try accessing on the iPad with their credentials (if you want to test with an alternative username just repeat the above steps for that test username) One other thing I have found previously is the username format often seems to get its knickers in a twist - sometimes wanting DOMAIN\username (with no domain being typed in the domain field itself) and other times wanting the domain typed in the domain field with just the username in username. Hope my ramblings help! You can see why I didn't post straight away!

I saw that video before we tested (the vid isn't me testing btw!) but found the opposite on things like pushing out video content / remote control etc. It was irrelevant for us either way, as we didn't rate AB tutor that highly compared to others either.

I evaluated various software in the same marketplace, including the previous version of Impero (they've recently released a newer version which I couldn't comment directly on) I found the previous version of Impero to be quite slow in comparison to the likes of Netop, AB Tutor etc. I also evaluated Vision 6 and NetSupport School (which is the product RM Tutor or Stone Classroom Manager) is re-badged from. In the end we went with NetSupport School - it proved to be the most feature-filled / reliable for us. I wouldn't say they were the cheapest, but they offered the "best value" at the time.

Walk in to any modern office and come out with that quip, and count how long it takes you to get suspended/dismissed. @SYNACK - There is a difference between an isolated ill-advised act and something individually stupid with repeated attempts at justifying. There is also a difference between one mod demonstrating questionable practice and no others publically correcting/apologising. Perhaps this thread is best left to fade in to obscurity as its fairly obvious nothing will ever change

Does Outlook, Outlook Anywhere and OWA work both internally and externally? If they do, is this the first time that this particular user has accessed their Exchange 2010 mailbox on an iPad? (If so, I have a stab in the dark - but it's long-winded, so will wait for you to say yes or no to what i've asked to save my fingers!)

Have to say, huge thanks to @Dos_Box for this thread - I'd not heard of a lot of those. Will look in more detail at them, but I'd be surprised if at least one wasn't put in use in both our secondary + primary schools

Sorry @GrumbleDook, I normally agree with the majority of what you say but not on this one. Yes, arguably (no pun intended) @RingOfFire has a background of generating debate / alternative posting, but look at the context of posts inside this particular thread - a thread from a well-respected member querying justification for being 'horrible' to children and proceeding to explain his logic behind polishing his guns at that particular timeslot/in that particular location etc... A thread which seems to have not generated any negative response from other 'regulars' or mods - instead they just belittle the voices of those who dare to speak out or challenge.
