A very nice school, recently retained Outstanding Ofsted rating. (I've never worked there but have known previous technical staff there, and have worked geographically close for many years) Unless they have recently changed their mind, I'm surprised that the advert doesn't mention they are a 1:1 iPad school.

Do you specifically know that autodiscover has ever worked? I've seen a lot of installations in schools that would give those kind of errors, even though internal and external clients work. Based on what is pasted there i'd be inclined to stay away from worrying about autodiscover for a bit - especially if your internal clients aren't able to send/receive or login?

EES usually covers upgrade licensing. OEM licensing needs to be in place on hardware covered in the agreement? In terms of the laptops, they look very promising. Does anyone mind putting a rough price here or PM'ing?

Check the basics first. Look at NIC settings and make sure that the DNS addresses are valid. Make sure that the servers on the end of those addresses are healthy and in sync. Check that your GC server(s) are all functioning too. If you've recently removed any GC's this may well be related.

We're about to start a MAT but are already part of a large collaborative and looking to operate in similar ways too. Our Director of Finance is very keen to investigate PS Financials as an alternative to FMS. The system looks nice and clean and seems to offer all of what he wants to be done. The way the software would work in a MAT environment is that each school would be set up as its own company, and users created with delegated permissions to operate each area. From a technical viewpoint the software would be installed on a server here with me and accessed via remote connection in other schools when required. In terms of other MIS requirements we will probably stick with SIMS.

Hi All, Can anyone recommend a solution that fits in with the above title? Essentially I'm looking for a bit of software which will keep track of our consumable and loan item stock - allowing simple check-in and check-out of loan items as well as allowing us to scan in/out individual items like toner, peripherals and specialist paper etc. In practice, I'd like technicians to be able to be able to 'see' from the software that we have 15 x keyboards in stock, go and find one, scan it out and allocate to a department for future tracking/audit/costs etc. Ideally the above would be done using the barcodes which are already present on the boxes, but if necessary we could print our own. Ultimately I don't mind investing a bit of money in the above as long as it is simple enough and does the job. I've looked at various different products but none are quite as clean as I want. The ones which have the functionality I want often fall under 'warehouse management system' descriptions, but come with far more options and complication than I want. If anyone can recommend something they have seen or use themselves it would be hugely appreciated.

My previous role was at a specialist performing arts colleague who had a new school build which incorporated a theater matching your spec. For us we went down the projector route too as advised above. We also used Stage Electrics to do the finer design and installation - be aware that they are not the cheapest, but you do tend to get what you pay for in the pro light and sound areas. May be worth noting that Capita are integrating Performance Management features in to SIMS to combine with the teacher performance related pay side of things. The features will be available for non-teaching staff to have data recorded too. Speak to your friendly Capita / council rep for more details!

Agree with FN-GM. What I'm doing now is exactly the same as what I was going when they were alive! If anything, I have more freedom to ensure that plans ARE school-specific instead of running in to opposition quoting BECTA 'guidelines' which were often watered down/generalised to attempt to fit the needs of 'all'.

Out of interest, have all those who contributed so far not used/looked in to Xerox? If you have, what were the reasons you didn't go with them ultimately? We are currently Ricoh but very close to opting for Xerox machines to drive our in-house mono and colour needs when the lease is up.

Dear All, I, along with other LT colleagues, are currently discussing the possibility of seeking a "Strategic Data Manager" - potentially a specialist data manager and/or teacher with excellent understanding of data and assessment. Ultimately, a role which will allow us to move forward with a consistent approach to recording, tracking, analysis and presenting of data at a high level. While this role isn't yet properly defined, and neither is salary, I would be very interested in hearing from individuals who think they may fit the early requirements. Another recommendation for Kayako from me - have used them for years. They have hosted or self-hosted versions of their product available. Email parsing can be set up to do what you want - you can even have several departments set up in there - e.g. ITServices@ SiteServices@ which will generate tickets in their own 'departments'

Thanks howartp. I've actually moved on from the school I was based at which had the requirement, but we ultimately didn't proceed with anything. I'll pass the details on to my old team though, as your find does look very promising. I'm sure others will be interested when this comes up in searches so thanks for the ressurection!

Anything in the fact that the posts heavily in support of this company appear to be new users? Questionable sales technique, suspect references and very poor customer relations (if the posts by their staff in this thread are concerned). If Tandem (or any other company) wish to attract new custom, the approach taken in this thread clearly isn't the way to do it!

@mcfod I can assure you that in my case, lack of training was not the issue. Lack of flexibility and support (from Samsung themselves) was. I've since moved in to a new school and implemented a OneLan solution - not the cheapest in the world, but has been reliable, customisable and had quality support - all from day 1.
