I must be pretty lucky judging by these comments! I've had three of these at work in use for a good 2 years ish, and I liked them so much I got one for home too. The home one lost its wireless settings once, but apart from that it's been faultless - same as the three at work!

Technical answers can be something you've had to work hard to get yourself, and potentially ones we could all charge to offer to someone. As a community we decide the effort and finance potential is less than the reward of contributing - and hoping we'll get the same back at some point. It's not too different - it just depends on the individual's perception of value for an answer/invite. **EDIT** As is often the case, Tony does indeed have the answer! Took me too long to type the above reply clearly!

I obviously don't have access to such information, but if I had to guess would probably assume that you are largely correct. It doesn't change my opinion that we would be wrong to blast new member requests en-mass though. We were all new once, and all wanted something, even if it was just a technical answer.

I'm happy with the theory of people contributing to the community, but not sure about the sweeping generalisation that we simply shouldn't tollerate/accept new requests. New visitors may have been drawn to EduGeek for picking up on keywords like 'uthink' etc, but if they have a pleasent experience and get their request (from someone clearly happy to give one) they may well turn out to be a great addition to the site. If they only get cliquey negativeness it won't paint the community in the good light it deserves.

Just an add-on to my earlier post.... As I mentioned, we are almost identical in terms of setup etc. What we did with our "Physical DC" is to actually have the physical box run the Hyper-V role, and then have a virtual DC running on it! This additional DC is still technically virutal, but because the physical server runs the bog standard Hyper-V role outside of the failover cluster manager, it is simply a local service. The reason I did this was to give a bit more flexibility in future. If the hardware died I just have a VHD to plug in somewhere - or import in to the cluster while I replaced harware etc. Might be worth considering?

We have an almost identical set up and were forced to put in a physical DC when doing some early disaster recovery checks. (It became evident that although we technically could get up and running again, it just took far too long / required a lot more knowledge going forwards etc). Now we have a physical DC in the mix in a power loss situation we would power up switches, boot up the physica DC and check all services had started, then begin booting up everything needed for the virtual side of things.

Your update differs from your original plan doesn't it? On that you had three servers comprised of two rds and one gateway? What was your reason for trying to make both rds servers have the gateway role? The set up I have is as above in your original plan. Only the gateway server is accessible from the net, which is the point of the product - it negotiates contact with other accessible machines without having to have them all published to the net. Ignoring all of that for a minute, if you have rds gateway up and working, can you connect internally? If you are using the RDP client itself don't forget that you will have to connect to the farm name, then have the appropriate gateway settings listed in options > advanced > connect from anywhere. For me, this looks like: Conenct to: rdsfarm.school.internal Connect from anywhere gateway settings: remote.school.com, use NTLM and bypass for local addresses

I've done a lot of business with Softcat too. I've used the same AM as Morganw as well as two others over the years. Currently have two EES and one soon to expire SA + have just pushed through Master Collection CS5.5 I'd echo all of the above positive comments - especially pricing. They appear very honest - If I go back and say I've had cheaper elsewhere they will either match or better if it's possible.

The fact that HP ProCurve come with a lifetime warranty (if sourced correctly from EU stock) is the thing which gives me faith. I've had their kit for about 9 years or so now and only ever had one issue - reported at 3pm and had a replacement part with me on a pre-10.30 delivery the next day!

Hi All, Do any of you use EasyTrace for e-registration with SIMS Lesson Monitor? If so, what are your experiences of it? Is it reliable? Are marks always written back? Do you have issues with some marks appearing and others not? As you may guess, I am asking the above as we now have it - but it is not quite living up to the standard we envisaged / should be getting! (To slightly balance that comment with a bit of positivity, AMI support seem very keen - still working to resolve issues, I'm just interested to see what others who have used the system for longer think) Cheers

We have about 25 cameras and 1 NVR. Price is an interesting one - I designed the solution, but didn't have pricing(!) It was part of a new school build where the M&E contractor had the original remit, before I pointed out we'd be better off with an IP based system rather than old style BNC stuff! I believe the cameras were around 250-300 though. I'll do some more digging and confirm later

We have just put in a Samsung solution called iPolis - see SAMSUNG TECHWIN CCTV It's very good so far. All web-based linking back to a NVR. As it's web based you can delegate responsibility and allow staff direct access if they need it.

Would you be willing to share the script? In the long term i'm hoping we won't need it as a result of the impending 5.5 installations, but if my guys haven't sorted the issue yet it might be useful?

Funny you should mention that.... that is our other issue at the minute!

Just a quick update on this.... The issue has been resolved. It was due to an Adobe add-in within Internet Explorer (all affected machines had Adobe CS3 master collection installed). The user opened IE which ran the add-in and presented them with a Windows Explorer tree window on the left hand side of IE. Once a user closed that window/bar within IE the use of Enter and Apost keys was fine. We've disabled the addin by GPO and created a KB article for external use. (Not that this should matter going forward for us, as I placed the order for 5.5 last week!) Hope the update helps someone in the future!
