Hi guys, Just a quick query, can a company which supplies recovery media refuse to supply the discs if the licence key is unreadable? I have a friend with a acer laptop and they want 50 quid for a set of recovery discs and wish to know the licence key. I have explained and sent photographs with the sticker intact but due to movement of laptop on knees etc, the black text has been erased. I know for a fact that recovery media always comes with a pre-inserted OEM key which never matches whats on the sticker if you use a key viewer program. My understanding is that media containing windows shouldn't be charged for, but its the actual licence to use which is chargable. Anyone know the legal side of this? Cheers, Andy T

Hi webman, thanks for the swift response, the site does not require logging back in again, unless left for a considerable amount of time (understandibly). We just have to click the refresh button to reload and enter the details in again a bit quicker and press book. We have raised a ticket with the company in the past, but when tested at their end all seems fine?

Morning Gang, We are having some problems with our browser timing out and constantly needing refreshed. One example is an offsite web based room booking system we are using. By the time someone has checked the room the period and put in some booking notes, then you click on the book button and it just seems to hang until you click refresh and enter the details in a tad quicker. I have been up and down browser settings and I cannot find anything to adjust someone said a firewall setting could cause a timeout issue, but was wondering if anyone else has had this weird experience before or could give us a few pointers? Hi Sparkeh, yes we are relying on local support tools at the moment, is lan view installed on server only or is there anything needing pushed out to the workstations?

Hi Guys, this has been an ongoing issue in our ICT suite for ages now and its one we are baffled with. Our machines have a schedule on CC3 to run a shutdown of all workstations on site. 1st round is at 7pm when it will attempt to shutdown all workstations which have no one logged on. There is a second wave of shutdowns at 9pm which will force shutdown on remaining stations. All machines are scheduled to restart at 7:30am to allow updates etc. Majority of the machines now are either not shutting down or waking up correctly and are hanging on just a blue screen with the pointer on the screen and a forced shutdown and restart kicks them off for the day. Things we have tried 1. Update network drivers (no difference but sorted out our package deploying issue) 2. Swapped tested patch panels and cables to identify layer 1 issue (no joy) 3. Full rebuild on all ICT suite to re synch the local support tools plug in (still no joy) I am really scratching the head at the moment. Has anyone else came across this? Thanks in advance! Andy T

Re spiceworks, i have looked at this, never installed it on a server as such, but on a clean dedicated workstation with dual IP ranges so it will detect all devices on the network. It just seemed to slow and clunky to be usable or am I doing something wrong?

This pertains to the ascend 2040s but the machine in question are 2030s. I may be giving this a bash later I will report back later hopefully with a success story. Good emotive subject guys and I give it about another 10 posts before lockdown. Our total household annual income is £26k, mortgage of £125k have a 6k debt because of a tax credit issue which wasn't our fault which we are repaying back (so our current payments are cancelled out). Car failed MOT so we scrapped it, no transport.Bosses of Advent training had ran off with my last 6k of redundancy for an MCSE course which left me with no way of affording further training. Nothing left for a holiday and we deem our virgin broadband and mobiles as a luxury not a neccessity. However know of people on less income and more benefits who can run a car and a family holiday each year. Opposite case younger sister, registered alchie failed detox twice at taxpayers expense, free flat, enough money to get absolutely w**kered every night on cider. Flat has just been refitted out with NEW kitchen and bathroom of her choice. Ours stands like the set from the Good Life sitcom (70s G plan and formica). To say my urine is currently boling over is an understatement lol

Morning guys, Just looking for a bit of advice. I am new to folder permissions and it seems until I get more hands on experience in configuring and applying its all a bit vague lol. Is there a bit of software preferrably freeware which can scan folders and collate all the permission data into a CSV file? I think by doing that it would make my understanding a bit easier. Any advice gratefully recieved cheers in advance!

To be honest I don't know the make of cables as it was purchased through the site team and I have become involved because of the issues they were having really. Trouble is they have bought 2 cables from different manufacturers..Just looking now one is Nikkai (?) with no extra electronics 15m I presume and the other unbranded 20m with a small box in the centre of the cable run.

Hi Guys its a Marantz Blu-ray BD5004 which is sitting in the AV Rack. Also connected to the projector is a presentation laptop via VGA which is picked up on the source cycle almost instantly. I have not heard any reports good or bad about HDMI over CAT5/6 and was wondering if this was the way to go?

Hi there, we have an optimax 1080p projector mounted in our main hall and in our AV Cabinet behind the curtain at the side of the stage. We have tried using a 20m amplified HDMI cable (which is the idea distance for trunking and fitting), but it seems like the cable doesn't provide enough grunt for the auto source selection to detect it. It takes about 5 mins of cycling for it to eventually pick up and the picture quality is pretty poor. I understand you can send HDMI over Cat6, but could someone please explain how its setup and what equipment I would need to purchase? Any help would be grateful Cheers peeps!

Hi guys and gals, We are having a heck of a time here with package deployment and it all started when we tried to roll out our XP sp3 and IE8 updates. We trialled it on a classroom but seemed to fail to install the RM Local support tools and requires us to chivvy the machines on between 5 and 7 times with a installrm. Having removed these updates for the moment, the problem still exists as I kicked of 2 remote rebuilds which have still around 60 percent of the packages in their .ini file still INSTALL_PENDING. I welcome all hints and tips regarding CC3 package deployment. I haven't the experience or the time at the moment to look at WDS so I really want the tools I have at hand to do the job they are supposed to do. please help Cheers in advance guys.

Last year I had to spend out around £800 on replacement remotes and a few have gone missing again so far, so I will be watching this thread with interest
