Thanks for the swift response powdarrmonkey, so we pay for a license to cover us initally and then a pay as you go (approx £100 per performance). The worrying thing is working out how many licensing houses there are representing all the film companies lol.

We would like to some time in the future, create a film club in school to show DVD's to also raise funds for the school. I am aware that we would need to be licensed to do so. We have had those symptoms from time to time, we have found a bare metal rebuild of the machine, build to main site and then manual moving to the department helps.

We have had nothing but issues with Thirdforce on an RM network through the grid. We have had girls tests looping around back to question 1 also authorware dissapearing at random of machines, probably to do with package updates to flash 10.x Girls and teachers are completely hacked off with it. Might need to look into litmus and activ though.

Morning people, I am looking to replace our rather antiquated AV system in our hall and have become a wee bit confused as to which type of amplifier I am needing. I see multisource, multizone, bridged mode etc. All I require is one rackmounted amp(as less a U as possible) that will power 10 to 12 speakers at a max of around 50w per speaker around the hall from one source. Can anyone help me find such a device? Also looking for a recommendation of a HD projector as I think we are going to go for the marantz BD5004 Blu-ray player in the rack cab. Thank you in advance. Hi Gang, Now in the words of Denzil Washington in Philedelphia "Explain this to me like im a six year old" In our art department we have 1 Kyocera C5200DN laser colour 5x RM ones on the RM network and 5 iMacs and 2 Apple G4's (running tiger OS) We have installed the printer as a network printer on one of our RM servers and prints absoutely fine. We then added the printers to the mac as a network printer via the IP address and installing the drivers. Each print from the apples then took early 8 minutes wait to print (even though there was no queue). We then decided to install the printer locally on each G4 and iMac, works a treat for around 3 days then it starts printing out error codes and we continually have to re-install the drivers. We do how ever have an Xserve which is used mainly for the music department and was wondering if we should install the printer on that and share it out? Would there be any implications of having two server print queues for a single printer. Has anyone else came across this type of issue? Any help to slow down my rapidly greying head would be appriciated Andy T

I have just created a log in account for our languages department to upload their listening material for mock exams. We will rip the CD to mp3 or WMA and create a playlist on windows media player for playback via headphones. Does anyone have any idea as to how many simultanious logins to play the same files before there would be a lot of stuttering and buffering? We would be looking at around 25 candidates logged into thin clients to playback the files. I tried around 7 as thats as far as I could get by jumping from machine to machine physically to test but I won't actually be able to get a class to simulate for a week or so. Any ideas peeps? The programme was a tad embarrassing to say the least and every time that Timms MP fella came on it, he gave me the creeps. I have no sympathies with the music and film industries as they have not moved with the times. As im a vinyl collector, I love my old dance 12"s for the artwork and the physical look of the item (and for the analogue sound but thats another arguement lol). The same goes for the old cassette and CD theres always been a physical media and feel as if your getting something for your money. I feel MP3's etc cannot be related to as a physical item hence why humans cannot relate to audio file=pay for it. Imagine paying something in the region of £31,600 just to fill your Ipod classic 160gb:eek: There is also the solid proof that downloaders spend twice as much as people who don't. The poor old musicians need to realise that making music maybe is not a viable way anymore to put food on the table and pay the mortgage, just as the same happened to the miners and shipbuilders in the eighties:mad: and even if this bill is brought in, if the torrent sites cannot be used, people will just mail external HDD's with collections onto each other via the postal system...That until the postal system gets the blame for Lily Allen not being able to meet her monthly mortgage repayments. Until then, I will keep buying my oldskool 12" vinyls. PS here is a thought - If certain companies wish to sue individuals for illegally downloading their material, should we have a right to sue these companies who enforce their drivel on our eardrums with out our consent?? Good morning ladies and gents, Looking into creating a disaster recovery plan for the school here. We have 4x domain,1xsims,1exchange and 2xTerminal Servers for thin clients in the ICT suites. We are an RM School on CC3 and back up daily weekly to tape only. We have had RM come in and quote over 15k for a SAN system which would make us disk to disk to tape, but surely a couple of NAS boxes dotted around the school with mirrored RAID should suffice? Whats your backup solution and what did it cost to implement if I can be so cheeky to ask? Andy T

We have just disposed of around 80-90% of our individual inkjets in favour for a managed print system with maintenence contract. We have one mono laser per department, 1 colour laser shared between the science depts and one other colour in our IT office which we monitor. Yes there was a few moans and groans, but generally its now been accepted that no one really needs to print in colour here all the time. They're all on our network with software we monitor ink levels and page counts. We also have a four hour on site repair with a 24 hour replacement if it cannot be repaired and the printers Email the company and us with issues and meter readings. Which we are looking to save around 20-30% on our consumables budget. Its lifted a whole lot of pressure of the department. I am in the same boat, having spoke personally to the person at the administrators, their main goal is to find a buyer, if that is sucessful then happy days. If no buyer is found then we are right at the bottom of the pecking order. Surely this type of company managed succesfully could be a little goldmine? Andy T

Hi Guys, We have just had some paperwork through from Herts County Council regarding the cessation of support and SIMS on the 2005 platform in Summer 2010 which is forcing us to migrate to 2008, along with a nice bill of £1550 for our troubles. The school I work for is pretty sure the last migration was either free or subsidised and are querying this with other schools if you have had to do this? Regards, Andy Turpie
