  1. I used to collect Airfix as a kid, only WW2 planes though! My pride and joy was a huge 1:38 scale Lockheed P-38 Lightening that I had no room for, so hung it from my ceiling with fishing wire! http://i520.photobucket.com/albums/w323/DH764/Airfix%201%2072%20%20P38%20Lightning/IMAG0497.jpg Also used to collect/paint Warhammer 40K models. I chose the Chaos Space Marines. Loved painting them, though none of my other mates wanted to collect them too and do battle!
  2. Thanks @localzuk. The SQL2012 migration is not too far off and as they have Discover and SOLUS3, I may suggest Express R2 and then when the migration comes around, move over to full SQL2012. It will give them time to gauge performance on the new server with SQL Express and make life that little bit easier for all involved.
  3. Nope, no longer support from the Spring release. Autumn 2012 was the last upgrade where Capita provided support. We were informed by Jon Wood at a S/W Technical seminar back in march that "technically", nothing was introduced into the SIMS Spring release that will have any effect with the reporting engine in SIMS and should therefore not stop reports working with Office 2003. However as it is now unofficially supported, Capita won't be able to help you with any problems, if your lucky, your LEA my offer "best endeavours" support. Therefore, I'd take this opportunity between the Spring and Summer release as a possible "get out of jail free" card and get office upgraded before the next release!
  4. Cheers for this, I should have been a bit clearer in my original post though. I know what the limitations are between Express vrs Full, however I'm wondering at what point is SQL Express deemed not suitable for a school and the move to full SQL shuld be made? A middle school has 540 pupils, 40 SIMS users and a DB size of 1.5GB along with FMS, SOLUS3 and Discover databases and is currently using SQL express. A new server is being installed soon and I'm a bit unsure if SQL Express is really suitable?
  5. I'm sure I've seen this on here previously, but is there a general "rule of thumb" when deciding between SQL express and full blown SQL? I recall seeing some kind of formula? Users + DB size x 'X' amount or RAM? Or something like that? or am I just talking out my rear?
  6. We did the last migration via CentraStage for all of our LA sites and will be doing the same this year. They were top notch with their scripting guru Simon writing a number of scripts to ease the migration process. I'm sure it will be the same this time around, I'll be looking at automating the SQL installation over half term, then once we get the SISM Summer release with the migration tools, the real work and testing can begin!
  7. Warning: In case this affects other schools. Just had a site that's had all of the latest patches and all was well, until they disabled the School Events option in the Home Page Time-line Configuration screen. After that, anyone with the time line on the homepage got kicked out of SIMS with the "Cannot find table 8." error (which was originally an issue with patch 18180 in some sites). We found a user without the time line who could log in and got them to re-enable the School Events option. After that, everyone could log back in again. If you have had 18180 and did not get the Table 8 error, seems that you may actually have the issue and not realise it yet! We will be logging a call with Capita about this! Edit: To clarify, the school had patch 18180 and showed no issues. They've had it for over a week and changing this timeline setting has caused the error to show itself. Therefore it's safe to assume other schools could have the issue too but it is laying dormant.
  8. Found the 2013 one but can't find a ref for it. Not sure if it's OK to post it directly on here. May be worth checking with @PhilNeal?
  9. The resource is 20830 on SupportNet. Link and P/W are in that news item.
  10. Sounds like it could just have been the SOLUS3 UI that has been removed then. I have had this before in a site or two and it is a case of just reinstalling. The installers are on SupportNet (if you have an account). If not, e-mail [email protected] and request the latest installers.
  11. First, I'd log a call wit Capita. SOLUS3 should not remove itself if it rolls back. Secondly, any trace what so ever of SOLUS3 on the server? Are the services still there and running? Agent installed? The database still attached? If everything SOLUS3 has gone bar the database, I'd suggest downloading the manual SOLUS3 installer and manually reinstall.
  12. It uninstalled itself? Sounds like that is fixed!!!
  13. While on the bed on my iPad, I see the cat appear. I put my hand on blanket and move it around. he looks all "meh" and ignores it. I put my hand under the blanket and move it around. He goes mental. Stupidity and epic cuteness all in one.
  14. I've had a hunt on SupportNet without luck, I'm looking for a document/information on Capita's SLA on case logs. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
  15. On no! Rumbled!!!!
  16. I did NOT need to know about this!!!!!!
  17. Ahh, that makes sense. Thanks for the info.
  18. Though I'd log this just in case, but browsing the "Whats new" list and refreshing from time to time, I noticed that some threads reply values were going up, but the "views" value remaining at zero. I presume this should not happen?
  19. We have been asking for the following change to SIMS Lesson Monitor for at least 5 years, our schools ask for it all the time – and need it. Following another flurry of requests we have logged a change request and in the hope that it will have an effect, if you think it’s a good idea, please vote on it! The change request number is 1305-1190913 - schools need to be able to set writing lesson marks back to AM for particular groups on particular days for instance when a year group has assembly one day a week rather than the normal AM registration they’d like the lesson 1 marks used. At the moment if you set it to copy lesson marks back to sessions if does it for the whole school, the current set up options don’t actually reflect how schools function! Similarly if you set earliest marks for pupils it applies to the whole week, we have schools where one day a week the pupils come in early for tutor time and there is no way of accurately recording this information as the earliest lesson marks overwrite them. Edit: Hopefully, a direct link to the CR: http://support.capitaes.co.uk/ChangeRequest/DetailChangeRequest.aspx?id=%C3%97%C3%9F%C3%92%C3%9A%C3%A8%C3%A8%C3%94%C3%9B%C3%A8%C3%9B%C3%98%C3%A2
  20. Your a gent. Have some rep for your troubles.
  21. Cowboys?! That was uncalled for!!! /flicks cigar cut away and pushes cowboy hat up We use CentraStage so could be handy to set up so we can run overnight in our school if required. The 2011 version would be good. In the meantime, think I'll log a call and request a copy.
  22. Was not as far off as I thought!!! BBC News - Samsung claims 5G mobile data transmission breakthrough
  23. I've heard this batch file mentioned a few times. I presume it's available on SupportNet? If so, a ref number to download a copy would be great.
  24. The patch number @vikpaw referred to is 14265. Re-indexes the database tables and truncates the log file. It "should" put the database into Simple recovery mode too which should help prevent the log file from growing to huge sizes.
  25. This is the tread your looking for: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/mis-systems/111802-spring-release-server-2003-slow.html
