OK, either way, the task should not take 10 hours. I'd suggest checking Discover to see if it reports that the transfer has completed successfully, and if not, when the last successful transfer was. Log into Discover on the server (you should be able to use your SIMS .net user name/password) and click on the (i) icon in the top right hand corner. It will tell you when the last successful transfer was: Next, reindex patch when possible. Also, dig out the Discover log file (which should be here if you have a standard installation: C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Local\Discover) and if it is failing, it should list some specific errors as to why. They may not mean much but SupportNet solution search seems to have the majority of them listed.

So the transfer task is stopping at 11am of it's own accord, or are you killing it off? Also, does Discover show the last data transfer was a success? You can check in the Discover client or the Discover Configuration Utility.

I wonder if MS will show just a controller too...

500000?!?!?!?!? That's 8333 minutes!!!! 138 hours!!! 5.75 Days!!! No wonder it's not stopping with that sized timeout!!!! I'd get that changed immediately! 600 (10 mins) is the default I believe. I usually up it to 20 minutes (1200) in bigger schools, and I've set it to 30 (1800) minutes in our biggest school (they have a 10Gb SIMS DB). The transfer should take no more than 30 minutes max.

Like Phil says, the task should not take 10 hours, however I have seen the task cause high CPU loads which I think is normal, hence why the task is set to run at 1am, and why it's recommended users don't run full transfers manually during the day. I found in a couple of sites that the Discover log file had sometimes grown to crazy sizes which seems to cause the transfer task to run longer then it should. Check both the Discover.ldf and SIMS.ldf files and if necessary, truncate them and release free space to get them down in size. The transfer may also be failing and depending on your time-out period, it is retrying through to 11am. I think it has five attempts at a transfer and should time out after a set time period. Ask a user to check when the last successful transfer was. One last thing, is it possible the transfer is completing, and a user is coming in first thing and manually triggering a new full transfer, or is it the task just running non-stop? Edit: Another thing I thought of, make sure Discover is on the same version as SIMS. If they mismatch, the data transfer will break. I've seen a case once where the task just runs and runs and runs.

[sims] SIMSApplicationSetup.exe Hangs on Silent Install
Rawns replied to Taunton81's topic in MIS Systems
Have you tired running it manually to see if it completes? -
This is a brand new clean installation of SOLUS3 right? Check out C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Capita\Solus3. Think it was the module folders that did not have write perms.
-
I've seen this before. Capita connected up and it was to do with missing write access to a specific set of folders but for the life of me I cannot recall which ones! Looked on the closed SupportNet call and they did not put any closure details on it. I'll rack my brain and get back to you...
-
Exactly. It's no longer a case of 'if' but 'when' SOLUS2 support ends, and when you don't have a updated Setups folder available to build your own packages, and 10,000 other schools screaming for SOLUS3 help, it's going to be stressful for you.
-
Allow me... SOLUS3!!!
-
Like @vikpaw says, no more support if you're using 2003 and no more testing in 2003 from Capita. It's either a case of a planned, controlled upgrade for SIMS users to Office 2007/2010 with minimal disruption/downtime to your end users, or wait for the calls from them to flood in from them saying "My reports don't work any more!" which will result in you having to rush about to get licences bout and get Office upgraded ASAP so your colleagues can run reports again! I know which option I'd rather go with...

[android] Samsung Galaxy S3 - Which ROM do you use?
Rawns replied to LosOjos's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
While I don't have an S3, I am running Cyanogenmod (CyanogenMod | Android Community Rom based on Jelly Bean) on my HTC Desire HD. My phone only runs the mod up to version 7.2 but looks like the S3 has support for the latest build of 10.1. It's a well built, all rounded mod. Worth looking through the site and studying the features. Link to the international S3 (19300): http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/I9300_Info There are 9 S3 versions listed under devices so that link may not be the correct one. -
Tried taking a photo on your phone and allowing Google Goggles to do the legwork for you?

Not that I've looked into it (and I don;t even see how it's possible), but is Matt Smith confirmed for the next Season yet? He's not going out of it is he and being replaced by Hurt?

I can't remember who created this SQL script, but I'm sure I got it off another Edugeeker from a similar thread. We use this in management studio and it works a treat to see exactly who's in SIMS: declare @mySIMSdb as nvarchar(100) set @mySIMSdb = 'sims' -- drop table #sp_who2 create table #sp_who2 ( spid int, status varchar(100), loginname varchar(2000), hostname varchar(2000), blkby varchar(100), dbname varchar(200), cmd varchar(max), cputime int, diskio int, lastbatch varchar(100), pgmname varchar(500), parentspid int, request_id int ) insert into #sp_who2 EXEC sp_who2 select loginname, hostname, dbname from #sp_who2 where dbname = @mySIMSdb drop table #sp_who2 If your using SOLUS2 to run the upgrade, script it (or run it via a command line) and use the /FORCEUPGRADE /SAUSER=sa /SAPASSWORD=password switches. This will disconnect any usert and apply the upgrade, handy for those few users who always leave SIMS .net running overnight! SOLUS3 should kick users out too by default.

Not sure if it is something we're allowed to post up here, it's mosat likely a "Capita customers only" document. @vikpaw @PhilNeal, comment?
-
For anyone interested, it looks as though Capita have finally updated their Minimum System Requirements documentation (Now dated May 2013) but failed to notify anyone about it! It's a Sticky item on SupportNet.
