It all depends on what the school/company requires in terms of when things fail. I have clients who have a backup every hour and store them for over a year. And I also have a client who backs up their data once a week. It all depends on how valuable the data is and what is required if the proverbial hits the fan.

I don't pay for mine so doesn't make a difference (I have a lease car ) I personally think they will also change the structure again for how they calculate as now cars with such low Emissions they pay very little tax.

Yeah I have used Skygo - I am on Zen Internet so have a bandwidth Cap and I would prefer to use that for Netflix than for watching sky

I know all about Sky Multiroom but I don't ideally want to be paying for a third box (we already have it in my flatmates bedroom) so in the evenings the main sky box is free. (it is HD). Can anybody recommend me a unit that I can use to send the signal into my bedroom (approx 10/12m) from the original Sky box and also the Sky remote? there are various options out there but I am not sure which one is best.

That is essentially right! Your biggest cost will be Licensing for any VDI deployment. I can highly recommend Nimble Storage devices which are designed with VDI in mind. They give you the performance of SSD's but not the cost with the CASL architecture. Would you run the VDI on dedicated Hardware or share it with the Server infrastructure?

VDI will handle what you throw at it - given the correct underlying hardware. For that kind of setup it really is worth doing some assesment of the current load on the client machines. Liquidware Labs Stratusphere Fit is a really good tool for telling you if the work done on the clients will fit into VDI. It also tell's you the average IOPs required if. So you can then plan the IOP requirements for the storage. You would probably be looking at 15-25 IOPS per VDI machine. Also there ProfileUnity is very good for managing applications within VM's on a per user basis while not assigning them perm desktops. I am just rolling out a 150 user VDI for a client now, we have setup 3 host with 196gb ram in each and each VDI workstation being assigned 2GB ram. I am then working on a 600 concurrent seat VDI project which will again be hosts with Lots of memory and a Nimble CS420G X2 which will be able to handle the VDI's without even flinching.

For VDI - you SAN is the most important part - What kind of numbers are you talking about and can post some recommendations. Also what do the users run on the machines

There LES Circuit is with BT - They have a 10Mb and have approach 30 staff at the childrens hospice who use TS/VDI for this.

If it is just for Sims then I would use a VPN between the two sites (get a lease line on both sites (at minimum EFM)) Then use something like RemoteApps or Citrix XenApp for Sims. EDIT: on your lease line/EFM circuit get a financially backed SLA (to be fixed within 4 hours normally on these type circuits).

Personally I would run all systems from the Larger site and have the Dark Fiber(Point to Point) option with potentially the AirFiber as a backup. I have a client who has the dark fiber option (they are an adults hospice and childrens hospice about 3 miles away from each other)
