  1. id see if the emc device supports iscsi and connect it to the server that way it will give you better control over the drive as you can effectively treat it as a local drive on tehs erver and do the same sharing etc as if it was a local hdd
  2. thats why there are batery powered train on trial. Simplest way to reduce polution in city centres is to get busses to go electric they generally go from point a to point b and stop at either end so it should be possible to shove a chaging point at either end to keep them charged up during the day (might mean having a few extra busses so bus comes into end stop people get off gets locked and driver grabs bus in next bay over thats been charging for a while to take back repeat to fade or even have overhead power in areas wheere its sensible to charge em up (so like an old trolleybus) as to changing junstions/lights etc to be more effecient why isnt that already being done as the shorter time a journey is the least polution it creates and stopping/starting uses up far more fuel than coasting at a steady speed
  3. it actually might be quicker to melt a hole with something like a portable soldering iron anyway and easier to conceal than a drill or a hot wire cutter like you use for cutting foam
  4. im not expecting it to happen tomorrow but I think long term it will you can already not bother having office actually installed and edit docs etc on your phone / any other device with 365 for most people a desktop/laptop is becoming something they don't need/want when an ipad etc is instant on and connect a keyboard and for most people that covers their usage case I don't think the traditional "beige box/laptop" is going to be something most people use longer term either so ms need to do cloud stuff and push people that way while they still have the base users before apple/google ensnare them in their cloud offerings
  5. i don't think ms see it that way though. I think longer term azure will be your only option and you wont lock pcs down you will just lock down data so remote wipe policies etc. I agree theres a need to do this stuff IF its a school owned device if its a kids own then not so much if they want to fiddle with it that's their prerogative. Ms presumably do make decent money from server products but that's not the way things are heading imo we are heading towards a cloud future where on site all you will have is infrastructure devices maybe a rds for legacy software and a router. Its probably easier money for them to run their own server farms and sell services like 365/azure as you have to constantly cough up rather than once ever 3/4 years for a new server lic.
  6. im 90% certain that domain networks are not where ms are aiming their os its all tailored towards byod i expect domains to be depreciated in the not too distant future and move people onto intune that dosent have a perpetual license so you pay per year
  7. dosent paint 3d already cover a lot of the basic functionality? and there is an ms app called fresh paint for basic stuff

i couldnt get on with motion controls on 1 turned off from the start. Not tried multiplayer yet being slowly working my way through the campaign. splatling gun is a lot less fun than it looks, charger is still an awful weapon, dualies are great fun, fed up of getting knocked off the map of the level i tried this morning by bowling balls lol. Its fun but like the last splatoon for me i can only play it in short doses finished ever oasis yesterday fun little game its certainly a change from the massive rpgs ive played this year (zelda/persona/zero dawn) and im fine with that its a fun cute little game thats never going to exactly tax you (i think i game overed 4 times and thats because i wasnt paying attention to my life bar or the fact that if you have a healer in your party pressing r makes them actually heal i diddnt get that till near the end lol) the whole story is kind of guessable when you see it you know in the end cut scenes what is going to happen and who you are going to have to fight as the last (or near last) boss is going to be if youve ever played a jrpg/watched any anime before diddnt take away from the impact though (what does is after finishing it everything just carries on as before like botw) so back to splatoon2 for now and watching slayers dvds lol cant actually see anything upcoming i really want to play for the rest of the year (bar zero dawn dlc might even get a ps4pro for that) might actually make a dent in my backlog and finish fe echoes and a few others i never got round to completing

  14. try a really simple msi that has no prerequisites something like chrome. the error message to me is just saying that the pcs account dosent have access to the unc path try giving authenticated users read/execute access to the share both ntfs and sharing permissions

anyone fancy a go at splatoon 2 tonight?
  17. with ad if you want quick and dirty you could always add a login script that checks for the existence of a file created when you logon and deleted at logoff and if it exists log em off
  18. looking at a similar script i think you may be missing a % sign and some brackets for /f %%u in (listofcomputers.txt) do (start shutdown.exe -s -m \\%%u -f -t 60 -c "daily shutdown")
  19. id seriously look at mdt rather than just wds but try installing the win7 drivers manually on a pc i bet they work if so add them to your wds image
  20. if you want to remove apps from windows 10 and sysprep you have 2 options remove from teh wim file BEFORE you do your install with dism so they are never present in the image or remove them on deployment after capture you cant install windows remove apps and sysprep it will fail i also wouldnt domain join an image im about to sysprep
  21. id be very careful playing round with cortana it can cause start menu issues. ive had it where the start menu either wont open at all or opens but everything is grayed out by doing that
  22. at a guess the share with the msi in isnt accessible to the computers account ou probal need to add ntfs/share permissions for eith authenticated users or domain computers. its also worth checking you havnt done like everyone has at some point and have the msi installing from d: or s: etc it needs to be a unc path
  23. they may have refocused by then
  24. it amazing what you notice on books you first read years ago i remember trying to decode the band names in soul music at one point (and to some degree on every readthrough theres a guy works down the chipshop swear hes elvish lol) but i just havnt been able to reread them since his passing havent even been able to get through more than a few as books on tape
  25. its something smoothwall can do
