New Web Filter and Firewall for School
markwilfan replied to Techdw's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
We wanted to trial iboss but nobody could lend us an appliance. Sophos let us install our own vm. Smoothwall helped us install a vm and configged if for us remotely foc . Went for smoothwall in the end. Good product and got 4 years for 3. With regard to support can't fault them at the moment. And they provide you with training materials which are pretty good -
About 20 here as a test on old machines. Bang for buck best upgrade on older machines ever

I've seen that with some lenovo all in ones we had. Iirc we used a separate boot image with only the drivers for them and a separate task sequence in sccm to force the different boot image

Let's talk monitoring!

+1 for nagios. For less time consuming setup use check_mk to do the heavy lifting http://mathias-kettner.com/check_mk.html. We have nagvis installed too to give us a live weather map of data -
We use the esign solution bundled "free" with planet estream. We were in the market for digital signage and a media server and this ticked both boxes.

What @IanT said. If you install the same version of each driver (x86 & x64) things should be seamless for clients

Thanks @Haptic woo hoo

Hi guys Following the SSL Google switchover we have made a simple splash page with the certificate linked to it and a small set of instructions. This works fine for the Guest Access Service but does not work with the hotspot service we use for our students, it just pings them to the site they requested once they authenticate via the ruckus auth form. Tres frustrating. Anybody else come across this?

Make sure you install right click tools too. Makes sccm 100 times more usuable -

How big is your boot image @mdrabble? No need to put all drivers in. Just network ones, try to keep x64 to x64 boot and x86 to x86 boot too -

Doesn't have to be enterprise. Pro does it too but has to be domain joined -
We have a powershell script that gets deployed twice a day to laptops via sccm. Looks at last reboot time and poos a message up if longer than 2 days, then logs this in a csv

Altaro for us. Very impressed from what I've seen

exactly what i just found Just spoke to capita support and the software engineers are still investigating the cause as removing the above patch doesn't work for everybody. Entering the date is the workaround -
