We do this too. Works a treat. Also have startup and shutdown logs using the same kind of script to see if PCs are hard reset or not.

I'm the same as Dan. Happy to help too I personally would use a virtual hosting platform to help with perms. We use virtualmin which is gpl but as an edu you can get a very cheap cpanel instance

@newpersn all sorted. I've port forwarded my rds gateway through smoothwall just need port 443 open. VPN has its own external IP not going through smoothwall so if smoothwall borks I can still us VPN to remote in. Once VPNed in internet traffic is directed back out through smoothwall. Happy days

Yeh to be fair was my own fault. I was trying to use a server that already had an external IP so the VPN traffic was returning on the incorrect route. Whoops. Exa support was fab as usual. Thanks @exa_mark

It was a teacher's device. I tried my best but they need the Google DNS to work correctly.

Used planet estream in the past. Great product. We had radio playing via a webpage in our screens. Been using trilby TV for a year and love that too. Great for showcasing student work. Again webpage could stream school radio

Yeh that's my next step. I'd assumed I had a vanilla no ports blocked all the way to my smoothwall but it is possible some ports are still blocked

Anybody on exa set up a VPN? Specifically using ms AlwaysOn VPN which is IKEv2 based port 500 and 4500 UDP Can't connect externally but can on a VM on the same subnet as our external range. Beginning to think the ports are getting blocked further up from us.

It does use barcodes and can produce 1d and 2d barcodes itself. Would be nice if it had a mobile app but I am just using the site on my phone

I could never get it working. From what I gather the smoothwall box needs to have an external fqdn but couldn't get it to bind to AD when I did this. Very quickly back peddled and restored a previous snapshot.

Yeh I would. Probably the root of their issues migrating to v2.4 We did this in during the hols. Finance are wishing we hadn't now

Sorry didn't mean it to sound as harsh as it does. Just meant we are all going over the same points. If I were in your shoes I'd be asking the LA for training. Smoothwall have an accreditation you can do which I found useful to work out what it can and can't do.

It's obvious that this discussion is going in circles now and not benefitting anybody. Speak to your safeguarding lead for advice and then speak to your lea. They will be able to add sites to an exception list. As a bare minimum I would suggest that the certificate is checked for validity instead of being decrypted and checked. My personal feeling is that if a member of staff is using the school network to order stuff from John Lewis they must remember that they are not using their own private internet connection and must remember monitoring is happening. As previously said by somebody else, smoothwall is not actively saving passwords or usernames.

Unless you are using Windows server 2016 with a something like an Nvidia grid I'd forget about trying this.
