IMO if your current estate is on 2022, theres no need to upgrade, especially if you don't need any of the new features. 2022 has 6 (nearly 7) years of life left at time of posting. No rush at all to upgrade, especially until any bugs/issues are ironed out by MS Microsoft Windows Server | endoflife.date

We've had this setup for a few months now. Flawless, no issues at all so far.

I think thats the best way. I'll give staff a couple of days to move anything they need from their downloads folder to another location, then i'll run a script to delete all Downloads folders from their Home folders, set read only permissions on their Home folder & then run the migration. Shame you can't exclude specific sub folders with the migration tool, would have been easier

Starting our migration to sharepoint/onedrive For our users the downloads folder is located within their Home folder on the network. The Home folder will be migrated to the users OneDrive, however i'd like to exclude the Downloads folder if possible. Some users have 10GB+ download folders & I don't think its necessary to upload these. I'm planning on doing the migrations via CSV - is there an exclude field? I can't find anything on M$ docs regarding this

Sorry sounds obvious but have you looked in event viewer on both DC's? Might be a clue there as to why the trust is being lost. Is your domain functional level at 2016?

Not sure on the entire process but i believe the windows device makes DNS requests to those domains to determine internet connection

Glad you are OK. This. NOTHING is more important than your health, especially not a job. I used to be the same, i'd open my laptop at 7PM at home, answering emails, doing remote work etc... when in reality, it can wait until morning 99% of the time. I started having panic attack symptoms, usually at night. Had an ECG done at the doctors/bloods etc.. all fine - it's all stress/work related. So now, after 4PM I switch off notifications for work related apps & do not touch my laptop until 8AM following morning. It's so important to look after yourself. Eat well, do a bit of excercise - even going for a walk in fresh air, just so you aren't sat all day - which is easily done.

We don't have Mac's but I have heard that JamF connect allows you to use Azure/365 credentials to sign into the macs. I believe there are also scripts you can use to mount SMB shares. Hopefully someone who already runs this setup can answer more in detail You will need some sort of MDM anyway to manage apps/updates etc..

I've found that they barely respond to replies on the ticket. I just ring up now and ask for updates. You shouldn't have to, but thats how it is.

I heavily use MDT for system imaging - don't use it so much for app deployment after that though (other than deploying apps with the image, Anti virus, office etc..) If I did use it for app deployment I'd do the same as you, running the litetouch.vbs or PXE booting to run the task sequence. I'd recommend looking at some sort of remote scripting tool/RMM. This would at least allow you to run the litetouch.vbs on many machines at once.

It's not as easy as it should be... i had the same problem trying to get firmware for our 5406ZL. You need to register on HPE Networking | Enterprise , which will then allow you to search for firmware/software updates

I dont have the policy on hand, but we use our IP phones (Yealinks) as we have one in every classroom/staff area. We do this using some software called BellCommander. This sits on the 3cx server & you are able to configure various alerts, which can be triggered by dialling specific extensions. We have it setup to only allow certain extensions to dial in and trigger the lockdown alert - one in each area of the school with a trusted staff member (usually member of SLT, or head of faculty). Once triggered, the alert pages all IP phones with an audio file which is looped until cancelled by an authorized phone. Never had to use it (thankfully) other than testing - which worked well.

We're 1gbps throughout all of our edge switches, 10gbps back end between servers/core. I know thats the guidance but I haven't seen a need for us to upgrade yet. Other things we need to spend money on. Some of our switches are capable of 40gbps Never had an issue with 1gbps at my school with 640 students. & 90 odd staff. We dont do 1:1 devices here - it was briefly mentioned by a member of SLT a while back, however when i said we'd need to invest in a wifi overhaul & switches it was quickly put to bed..!

I use it on the odd occasion, not often enough for it to worry me too much - but I can imagine it will upset a fair few staff here too, I haven't told them yet! For booklets etc Publisher is much better than Word - I can't see why they're axing it.

Get ready now: One year until Office 2016/2019 end of support - Microsoft Community Hub Microsoft recommend moving to 365 apps (of course) - or upgrading to Office LTSC 2024. We've gone for 2021 for the time being - only buys us another year of updates (oct 2026) but we still use Publisher a lot (admin team & students) - which is no longer present in Office versions past 2021

You can still use exchange online (for now, until Aug 2025) I've heard some people mention SMTP2GO - honestly though i'm just going to buy into Bromcoms SMTP service when the time comes, it's not too badly priced.-
