Ok the white box attached the tank doesn’t seem to have any user functionality. There are screws to take the box apart but would I have to go to those sort of lengths to adjust the temperature?

Thank you everyone for your responses to clarify I’m not looking to resolve. This is more of getting an understanding of what I have so I can go to the agency with a bit more knowledge. I too am used to combi. This system confuses the hell out of me Oh yeah forgot to mention that bit I do have a controller below the boiler which at present it set on manual override (always on) to heat the tank and off to heat the house. This controller only serves as a scheduler and on/off for water/heat There is a thermostat also by the front door which controls the heating. But heating isn’t the problem and not turned on For the purpose of testing I turned the heating off to prove to myself that it wasn’t consuming the hot water to the taps. Unlike combi With this system I find I cannot heat the house unless the water is on also. Turning just the heating on eventually will go cold once all the hot water in the tank is I assume used... The only positive I have found to this system is warm fluffy towels. Only slightly better when you have had a Luke warm shower

I have used xibo in the past at a few schools. Think one still use it. Was in one school with several 65+ inch tv dotted around corridors etc all turned off But generally Notice displays seems to be less and less used nowadays mainly because of of the people’s incompetence to utilise a valuable marketing and information delivery tool solution at somewhat zero cost because they “don’t have time” That’s ok you just wasted my time then good job you didn’t pay for it Rant over

Supporting a school that have 20 odd chrome cast devices bought and registered over an expansive period of time. Supporting one of uncovers that it was registered under a previous tech google account. As to get more control over all of them rather than just factory reset this one and register it again under a random account I wondered Can these devices be centrally managed in the same way a chrome book can. That is a strange issue When you look at the print job history in admin view you gives you the computers name amongst other things it was printed from. Does this represent correctly? I agree with others sounds dns but evidently by your response not at network level. Have you checked the dns servers on the servers network card thats hosting papercut Try ipconfig /flushdns on papercut server If you ping hostname then nslookup the up address that the ping resulted, do you get the same hostname as you pinged?

Looking for non it related advice Reason I am posting this is in the hope that someone maybe able to help me understand my problem better because the to-Ing and fro-ing is beginning to get frustrating. I have a boiler (not combi) and a hot water tank that services hot water to radiators and the taps The boiler is set to 80 degrees. The temperature is the only thing you can change. The hot water tanks is upstairs in a cupboard and there does not seem to be a thermostat or anything you can alter other than the stopcock. The pipes coming off the tank some are too hot to touch others you can hold comfortably or cold My problem is my hot water to the tap doesn’t always deliver hot water. It can range from an acceptable to awful shower/bath. The water is never hot enough to the point where I have to use the cold tap mixer to cool it. My shower has a mixer valve My bath and taps are separate hot cold taps The symptoms affect mainly upstairs taps (same floor as the hot water tank) more than down The symptoms seem worse going in to the colder months Regardless of whether we turn the heating on or not doesn’t seem to impact the lack of hot water to the tap. Radiators when turned on fully open are red hot, you can’t touch for long with out hurting. Wsus is so easy when it is used and maintained properly. Maintaining wsus always has been regular routine maintenance for me when I was in my own school. Now I work for a private company supporting schools I am going out fixing problems due to technicians lack of routine maintenance.

Yeah don’t get me started on sccm. I found a server with sccm and wsus on as well. Again non functioning services stopped and disabled. This lad must have had a right nightmare. That my intention to rebuild the sccm server then that will take over eventually.

Thanks for the tip. I have fully patched 1709 version which by the looks of it as I check in with the server all is ok. My view is to feature upgrade a couple computers or an ict suite to 1809 see if it breaks anything and then go from there. Thanks all for your valuable input

Thanks all. To be honest I only considered malice or inability as that makes my life a lot easier. My worry was that if he knew of a technical issue that broke something. Didn’t fancy A phone call Monday morning after deploying the updates across the rest of the site over the weekend and it has bricked every computer. We will see [emoji848]

I have been tasked on a site to patch servers and workstations that hadn’t been patched for years. I found they had a wsus server which was misconfigured in wsus and in group policy targeting. Fine fixed that rebooted all machines and found they still weren’t checking in. I little digging uncovered that a group policy had specific settings to disable and stop the windows update service. Once removed all workstations and servers began checking in and updating successfully and the domain logins seem ok. This is obviously intentional and not a possible mistake unlike the first issue described. My suspicious brain is asking why??? Why would someone prevent windows from updating from a technical perspective. First thought sabotage but why it’s not causing great detriment to anyone really. The site clients is running Windows 10 edu 1709. I understand this is still supported until next April and we have plans to move them to sccm, but in the mean time I am trying to understand why someone would go to great lengths to stop devices updating themselves. Anyone with any technical experience explain this. Are there any glitches

I have remotely renamed domain computers using the following ps cmd Rename-computer -computername “name” -newname “newname” -domaincredential username password -force -restart I think with a few other suggestions you can make a script that would automate the whole process injecting a csv maybe. Sound like the users profile home directory is not shared or present. Need some clarity do you share the home directory location eg \\server\userhome$ Or do you share a folder that contains all the home directories in? Eg \\server\homes$\userhome To clarify is N: the drive you are using to connect the users home directory in AD? Check the user profile tab in AD. Check the letter corresponds to the letter you would normally use Copy and paste the home directory path location in to a run cmd and see if the directory appears. If it appears we know the users home directory is present. If present then check the share permissions and Nt permission of the folder the user is connecting too. Log on to your file server hosting all the home drives. Navigate to the home drive and Rick click properties on the home drive folder. Click security- add the user full control of that folder Please note if you share your home directory , click on the sharing tab , advanced, ensure the share is created and click permissions ensuring that everyone has full control Hope this helps

I get it. In my experience not just limited to capita but especially capita posting a problem here has got me more results in a shorter time frame then capita have ever. I have never known sims errors to actually report anything useful. I’m thinking you are missing some pre requisites! Inside your s: is that where your sims data folder is aka simsroot? Have installed you .net framework 4 full client. Also Rather than using solus to deploy sims, Try installing sims using the simsinst setup files which should be located in your s: aka simsroot\sims\setups as this will include all the binaries and necessary files.

That’s what I meant by my comment. Most would have a redirected connect.ini to a server share. I can see where I haven’t been clear. I was raising the awareness that the local connect.ini can have server settings that take priority over a redirected connect.ini on a server share.

Tbh sounds like they are sat on a known problem and brushing you off. These sort of problems in my experience have either been proxy related or temporary problems with the host (SMHW). Can you sign in anywhere else? If you can.... then... Are you sat behind a proxy? If yes... Try whitelisting the site. If you use https inspection try excerpting the site. Even try bypassing the proxy completely. Iv had the rare occasion where Smoothwall cause inconsistent outputs behaviour between ie and chrome. Most of the other times it was the host fault (not limiting it to SMHW but hosts in general) and it miraculously fixed itself.

Wow takes me back to the early days when we had an admin and curriculum domain. If you are sharing a printer across servers than it must only be a permission issue. Have you got a mapped drives S: for sims on the curriculum workstation? Sims won’t load without access to the servers connect.ini located within your S:\sims. You can Check your workstation connect.ini located in %programfiles%\sims\sims. Net. The file contents will state whether it redirect (to your s: drive) or details your sims server database

Have they been slow from the beginning or have they become slow in that 3month time period? Yes SSD and increased Ram will speed up the computer ability to deal with requests however if you have problems with for example switching, group policies, server etc then no local pc upgrade will fix your slowness. You need to focus really on narrowing down what is causing the slowness. Is it across all computers on the network or is it across a certain switch? What’s your core switch health like? Look for bottle necks. Any errors in transmission receiving packets? How are your servers and storage array configured? Try putting a computer in a blocked inheritance ou with only the necessary group policies applied. You mention login times are one to two minutes, that in my opinion is slow. How are your profiles set up. Do you have startmenu and desktop redirection or cached. You also mention files taking ages to load. Have you checked your storage array for any errors / failures or is it within OneDrive?

I agree. Just bought a new car and found it has a feature that prevents the car rolling back on a hill. Pretty annoying if you want my opinion as I have always been good at finding my clutch point for hill starts. For those who aren’t aware of this feature when you hold the car on the foot brake it gives you half a second from taking your foot off the brakes to the brakes actually releasing. Good if your crap at hill starts but crap if you are good at hill start and want to nip out of a junction quickly. Tends to Piss off the driver I have just pulled out on with a half a second lag. Anyway automation and all that being bad this is another example. As there is no indication of this feature being active how can you trust that the car applied the anti roll back feature. Why can’t cars just be cars that you drive

First check in hyper v manager that the checkpoint location is where all the checkpoint vhd are actually where they are located. Secondly check that the checkpoint files actually exist as I came across something like this when I asked my tech to go thru and delete the check points. He deleted the actual files rather than the check points then shutting the vm down to allow HV manager merge the vhds. An operation I had shown him many times. What happens here is the checkpoints files become out of sync therefore they can not merge. Bad news I am afraid if like me you don’t have HV backups of that server, I had to rebuild the server. Luckily for me it wasn’t a mission critical server Good luck
