[sims] Sims Parent App not sync/showing lesson attendance data
dapaulio posted a topic in MIS Systems
Morning All Since coming back in January I have noticed that the lesson attendance marks haven't been syncing/showing in the SIMS Parent App. I have checked the logs within SSM and they do seem to be uploaded without error To complicate matters a little sporadically marks will appear then disappear hours later. Session attendance shows in the parent app fine it is only the lesson attendance marks. In my opinion confirmed by no error messages in the logs means that the upload is successful. Capita have been less than helpful claiming that they weren't sure why however a change was due to be made on the 28th Feb re Teacher APP. I knew this was a fob off but gave them the benefit of the doubt and waited. Guess what the fix deployed didn't do anything for the Parent App. good job I didn't hold my breathe and for the last two months we haven't been showing lesson marks in our parental engagement app. Is anyone else experiencing these issues described. Thanks -
Got loads of this model also and have never seen this type of error My prognosis is as tefters says Faulty batch. Do you maintain them, regularly clean the filter etc? Could it have overheated causing internal damage? If they still under warranty Raise the call and have them replaced. Consider asking for a full recall and a different product batch or alternative model be shipped out to you.

We use schools ict. Leeds based company who provide training at cost. https://www.schoolicts.co.uk/training-courses-2-2/ North Yorkshire county council have a similar web address so don’t confuse the two if you google it Personally being in it support I have gained a lot of on the job experience with sims. Maybe your it tech may help you if he is a nice as I am [emoji4]

Send a Requires Urgent Assistance message to multiple computers
dapaulio replied to timbo343's topic in How do you do....it?
I agree with a comment earlier about safeguarding and system failure. I wouldn’t want to be the person that had the finger pointed at for a kid going missing and harmed There are plenty of notification systems but the communication relies on both sender and recipient being logged in to be effective Sims you already have so is cost free but require a few configuration tweaks. There is an emergency button within sims that notifies people within a certain group. Can’t remember what group it was or whether you delegate a group. But all our teachers have access to this emergency button for the purpose of some student kicking off or not turned up to lesson. Our only issue with this is the person it notifies needs to be logged in to sims where in theory the on call slt should alway be logged in to sims but in practice they never were for what ever reason they make up at the time. So yeah We also have this same problem. As a work around our sims manager and an assistant for when the sims manager isn’t around who are always logged in to sims picks up the notification and then relays the message to the on call SLT via walkie talkie. This from experience relies on the on call slt member carrying said walkie talkie and having it switched on 🤦♂️. This should go in the thread “IT is always to blame” Have you considered net support notify. Very Reasonably priced and notifies the computer a person is logged in to. Depending how many staff you have would determine the cost but on a per user basis is as I say very reasonable. We use net support as part of our lockdown procedure Hope this helps -
Sounds like you could be on to something here. The behaviour best fits an internal bug given the test I have already carried out. I will give upgrading to the latest and greatest on monday

Hi all Strange issue when I am trying to apply a bulk user action changing the charging to "automatically charge a single shared account" from "...Personal account" On completing the action I have come to notice that this bulk action does not apply. However if I apply a bulk credit adjustment to the same group it does work. This happens across all groups that I have tested. tested in different browsers = same symptoms trusted local server address in Internet options under intranet and set to lowest security Tried combining action known to work with actions known not to work eg bulk change account charge and apply a credit --> the result credits the account but doesn't change the charge destination It seems that some bulk user actions, do not work where others do. Anyone seen this? Using Papercut MF 18.3 installed on Server 2016 Thanks

My home hp mfp has a scan to network folder feature as well as scan to Dropbox / google drive etc etc. Can you not create a share to dump the scans into. Or Scan to Dropbox and share drop location url for people to connect to?

I’m running 64 bit office also with sims in a support capacity and too be fair not had any problems Iv noticed myself but I don’t use sims on a daily basis, but I was also told the same not long ago by a sims support provider we use that sims has lots of glitches with 64 bit office and their personal recommendation is to stick with using the 32bit in our deployment build. Think it is dependent on modules you use with in sims as to how problematic it can be. We use lesson monitor, nt6, exams, behaviour to name a few , fms (strictly it’s own app admittedly with its own problems) Is there a specific requirement for 64bit office because if not Stick with 32 bit if it not going to cause you any grief with other apps.

How to completely remove all Outlook profiles?
dapaulio replied to abillybob's topic in Cloud Services
Is it a roaming profile? Or UEV? if so then the profile will be stored in a network location and either cached onto the local pc or the latter read and written back to a network location -
Grc password generator works well for me. Copy out part or all the 64 character random generated password depending what I am protecting

Im appalled to admit they are still used at least still in the school I work at. I stumbled across one after a teacher logged a sound issue and was shocked to find they wanted to play a VHS on the projector. Now I am of the age where I remember vhs but in today’s world, really? Needless to say VHS doesn’t fall within the ICT remit and I recommended services that would still record into a digital format. 🤯

[ipad] iPads out of warranty free repair?
dapaulio replied to GuyJD's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
If it’s outside your warranty. Do it yourself. Changing a battery on an iPhone is relative straight forward so I can’t imagine an iPad being much harder. -
O yeah that is the best way to make a teacher lose their head. Very few can take banter when you remotely hint at their job being easy. Mention 13 weeks holidays and Most go 🤯

[sims] Staff photo ratio versus Student photo ratio - WTF? and WHY?
dapaulio replied to kennysarmy's topic in MIS Systems
Never noticed that until now Thanks, you have now ruined my life. [emoji23] -
I’m a only IT tech and some days bother me more than others. Depends on the attitude of other staff. When I had a junior tech I was at my happiest. Loved my job, loved going in and having someone to talk too. Unfortunately he was made redundant and since then I felt alone. Some days I would have to get out of the office and away from my pc to chat to other humans but in the last year or two with increasing pressures other staff attitudes towards each other have become fractured. Just seems everyone I talk to have nothing positive to say about or to anyone anymore. Our maintenance team are great and I regularly seek company in them but they too were cut from 8 members in their team to 4 and are always busy and not always around. Always seems when you need the company the most people are not there through no fault of there own I want to add.

Anyone enabled this feature yet. I have had one member of staff express an interest and feel is it worth enabling just for one person without fully understanding how it works and what impact it will have on me and resources on the network. I have no issue finding how to enable it but want to reach out to edugeekers on their opinions. Seems to have little knowledge base or reviews whether it’s worth enabling. Thanks

Hoping someone can offer a better solution or workaround then i have in place at the moment I have found if you print a webpage or use software that exports a report to a html the print costs are inaccurate even if you confirm the number of pages in print preview. eg 1 page webpage will charge maybe 2 pages even if you select print only page 1 or current page. The workaround i have in place is currently advising my users to convert the html page to a pdf then print the pdf but that advice is not been welcomed as a permanent workaround/solution. Has anyone managed to work out a better solution TIA

Depends what quality output your requirements are. I saw inkjets for more quality, graphic design output where lasers offer good enough quality for general office/school related printouts. Generally I too was unaware that inkjets could be more cost effective and struggle to believe it personally but happy to be corrected. We have just begun a new contract with sharp laser mfd so really happy to see your positive feedback.

Problem with capita management is they have capitalised the market and know any customer wishing to move mis would be a massive undertaking so they feel their service (as a company) is no longer necessary as very few would undertake such a massive migration of data. End user training. Etc.TBH I would be reluctant and would stand in that corner also. Generally aside from the long time waiting to speak to a knowledgeable 2nd liner the support is really good.
