I'd try it out with another image if you have one. Still sounds like a cacky driver to me. Windows deploy does sometimes do this. If you havent got another image, it might be an idea to turn of any non necessary stuff off in the BIOS - USB etc etc - then try it. That might narrow it down to a problem device(s)

Hey all, In the summer I'm looking at an upgrade. File server: Win Server 2008 OS: RAID 1 array Data: RAID 5 array - 8 disks - (I know. Don't mention it. I might be able to RAID 10 this at the same time.) I want to upgrade the OS to Server 2012 so I can use it as a virtual SAN to implement a second VMWare host - I need shared storage for that. IMO an in-place upgrade is just going to destroy the OS so a wipe down is needed I reckon. If I wipe the OS, how do I maintain all the shares and permissions on the data without having to re-create the shares. If I xcopy the data to a NAS, or restore a backup, will the shares/perms appear to the new OS. The perms will, what about the shares. It can't be as simple as it just will - surely. Hhhhmmm. Why do that? The backups will be months old if you ever need to use them.

Well I would assume so. That one is only a cheap suggestion. I don't know if they are any good or how easy spares are to get hold of etc etc. You need to research some to meet your own requirements. Just get one that exceeds the total wattage of all your equipment per UPS. All UPS's come with software so I suggest getting hold of trials and looking at what they can do. If you want a UPS to shutdown more than a couple of machines then you need an optional network card - all makes are like this unless u spend megabucks and have one integrated. Your options for shutting down multiple servers is: Scenario 1 - No network card: UPS connected via serial/usb to a server. That server has the UPS server software on it. UPS notifies that server to send the shutdown signal to the other machines (agents) Scenario 2 - with network card: UPS sends the shutdown signal to all machines via SNMP or HTTP. Allow for expansion too.

How many devices do you want to keep powered on when the power goes ? That one will do 8. Your load is minimal. 3 servers an a couple of switches by what you said. That would run 45 mins I'd say. VA is for total load - the heavier the load the more VA you need. The rest is up to the batteries.

I would: Choose where the main site will be. 2 x Hyper-V hosts - 1 for replication. 1 x DC at site 2 Build/buy a server(s) with loads of disk space and set Windows 2012 up as a virtual SAN with Storage Spaces (Virtual iSCSI)- as shared storage, and your file storage. Back up to a NAS or three and an offsite cloud. You could have as many DC's, and other servers as you want then. Set your forest up as you said above. You don't have to worry about gateways or routing really because you're on the authorities network and they can do all that for you. I reckon you could do the lot with switches and UPS's for somewhere around 10K

Its probably better if you Sync rather than redirect. I've was told by MS a few months ago that there was a big storage limit on syncing to onedrive. They however did say that they were increasing it. Whether they have yet I don't know. I was looking to sync 1.5TB.

Few summers ago (v hot) before I put air con in, mine went to 70 Deg + !!!!! How they survived I don't know.

Im VMWare. I think most on here will advocate the MS option though. VMWare is super solid but costly. Very adaptable though for larger scale deployments. Its a bit of a pain but can easily be done in house. No need for companies imo.
