An MDM solution allows you to manage your devices from the cloud, rather than having to put them in a trolley and update them manually. My MDM is Cisco's Meraki. Apple configurator and Profile Manager are NOT MDM platforms. I do the following: 1. Use Apple configurator to add the initial setup profile, security certificates and any necessary app (e.g. my MDM's app) to the devices 2. Enrol each device into the MDM 3. Manage any change in settings / apps from the cloud. The MDM is where you will push Apple classroom settings to each device. Simples.

I had a load of DLink DWL access points - the big heavy grey ones. They were great until I updated the firmware on them then they stopped connecting on half my machines. Rolled the firmware back...
