We don't allow personal devices full stop at the moment. Its a weigh up between the benefit of BYOD and confidentiality for us. BYOD makes sense if you're mostly cloud but not otherwise IMO. Not with kids sensitive data anyway.

We had problems printing with DC too. Not good. Just couldn't get it to work. Ended up printing them from Word.

We used EMAS for a bit for EAL/SEN students. Does text to speech as well as translating. EmasUK | Resources and Tools for EAL Teachers Widgit is also popular for SEN (ours use it but I honestly don't know much about it). Welcome to Widgit Online products like Education City have SEN modules within them but are pricey.

We're Virgin. They're pretty reliable, but their renewal cost is too high to keep. Extremely poor tech support though. I've been on hold for over an hour before. They're ok once you get through. No direct number for business customers/leased lines.

+1 for that. Although HP MFD's and PCut isnt great.

Had a demo last week of Sophos UTM. Looks awesome. Bit pricey tho compared to Smooth' - who I beat the rep into submission and got a grand off the price! 6K For 4 years too.

I still don't know tbh. Something must have gone badly wrong with the inward coming sync. Had to completely rebuild my primary DC. Luckily I managed to get to my 2nd one before it borked too. EDIT: We weren't running exchange. It was a hybrid deployment of Office 365 that wrote back O365 changes to you DC.

How many nodes have you got for 10Gb then? Will 10Gb go down CAT5e or do you need CAT6. I'd check what cabling is running into your server room. Imo 10Gb for a VM host is massive overkill if you're only planning to run SIMS.net and a couple of other machines on it. Unless you've got a ***load of users hammering the SQL.

A moot point.... Have you got any 10Gb switches. If not. Whats the point.

Ideally you would want centralised storage to make host management easier. E.g. upgrades / patches etc without downtime and higher availability. The VMs can be migrated from host to host whilst leaving the disk file in a central place, negating the need to move it during migration. Also with more than one host you have double (or more) redundancy. The reason I suggested virtual storage spaces on Windoze is just to keep the cost down. I.e. not spend 3K on a SAN. It works the same though (just without a fibre link). Thats where a 10gb NIC might come into it if that were important

Both P2V here. No probs at all. I always keep a physical DC running too just in case hosts have a wobbler. Print, SIMS and DC's work very well.

No our local domain is our old .sch.uk. I also have that domain set up in O365. Whenever we do a sync it defaults new users email address to that regardless of whats set in the email field or in the proxy address in AD. Have to powershell it to change it.

@maxrebo I presume this is to do with your other post about migrating machines to a new host. All the above is spot on. I would certainly go for a quad NIC or all the same brand and speed. And I'd also certainly look at much bigger mechanical drives instead of SSD's - less money, more storage. VMWare's recommendation for running ESXi is to run it off an SD Card or USB stick - saving you a bit of disk space. Most servers nowadays come with an internal SD Card reader. CPU's, RAM and networking are the biggies with hosts unless you're running very disk intensive processes. You can get some nicely spec'd Fujitsu servers for half the price of a Dell too. If I were re-designing our VM infrastructure now with what I know now, I'd have 2 mid spec'd hosts and (for costs sake) a low spec server with lots of disk space running Windows Server with virtual storage spaces on it for centralised storage. Or a SAN - but too pricey for us.

So you dont have to run any powershell rubbish to change the users domain when you sync.
