Lightspeed is another competitor to Securly in the cloud filtering space. We used to be on Lightspeed but our ISP switched us to Netsweeper. We've not been happy with it ever since. Netsweeper feels very behind the times.

Within Google. You would need to keep the ownership of your FQDN for Google, as changing your primary domain isn't a simple process. For example in Google we still have our primary domain as school.county.sch.uk but we now run school1.co.uk and school2.co.uk out of Google without any issue. AD wise, you can change it as Google > AD sync relies on the domain on the email address rather than the FQDN in AD, if you're using Google's sync tool that is.

There shouldn't be any implications for Google itself. Your primary domain will stay the same most likely - its very difficult to move it - so you'll need to keep the domain name active and owned, but you can add new domains till the cows come home. You will need to move your users domains Google wise, but you should be able to do this using GAM, and also alias their old addresses to their new ones.

SIMS is absolutely a step backwards, and broad accessibility should be one of the points being considered as part of any process now. I also concur on the third point. Exeperience of any MIS is more important than a particular MIS. Otherwise, you're just entrenching monopoly positions. Training should be provided.

Cloud is a business and commerical reality. The market has already moved. Even Photoshop is now going to be available in the cloud! The ideology is staying away from cloud solutions and being stuck with local installations on singular platforms, I'm afraid. The market sets the pace and the decision. Pragmatically, institutions will buy solutions that provide and meet their needs. If a solution doesn't enable an Apple school to work with it, or a Google school to work with it then they will find alternative solutions that do allow that to be possible.

Thoroughly disagree. They're only implementing what they have to legally in this respect and are having a few issues with this one particular thing. Otherwise, most of their products are not "messing up regularly" in the slightest. We aren't seeing the chaos of Apple's implementation of shared iPads or the multiple 365 data breaches and RDP attacks leaving schools ransomwared like Microsoft are we?

UI is off-topic, but if a new product is being sold to me and the UX is dated, then it does temper my interest in a product. See the new SIMS Finance for example. Cloud based, but looks straight outta Office 97. No thanks. A user's experience is important alongside the functionality. Simple fact is that the market has moved to the cloud, and we're now seeing more and more organisations being cloud first, if not cloud only - and a large number of establishments who expect to be able to use multiple platforms and work across them. iOS, ChromeOS, Windows. No one in 2021 should expect to start using a piece of software and be limited to one platform any more. And if you are a vendor of a piece of software that is limited to one platform, expect to lose custom to startups who have that anytime, anywhere focus in mind.

As far as I'm aware only a super admin can reset admin passwords. Admins being able to set each others is a recipe for security issues. You really want as few people as possible having the ability to reset passwords.
