Android tablet market is currently being replaced by the Chromebook + Android running on them route. The only Android based tablets that I'd even be close to considering would be the Samsung Galaxy Tabs or the Amazon Fire devices. Otherwise, I'd be going Chromebook now.

Ultimately, if you've got 100 machines, its about £3000 for the life of the devices - which if they're brand new is 8 years. That's £375 a year, or to put it in context 8 weeks working for someone on the living wage.

Yes. To manage them remotely you really need to buy the licenses. You can still dish out devices and log in without them, but you'll almost immediately regret it when you have to manually roll out new wifi settings to 100+ devices or explain to someone that you can't push an app to the kids because you didn't buy the licenses. If you're buying a device that lasts for 8 years, it works out at about £3.50 a year at most. They're no different than purchasing an MDM or CAL licenses.

We now have 15% of our Year 7s and 6% of our Year 8s out. Year 7 make up 50% of all our cases as of today. None of the other year groups are above 2% and we had about a 72% uptake of jabs when they came to visit. Which shows the power of even a single jab, really. The youngest year groups with zero (due to the law) and the smallest uptake have got considerably higher numbers out.

They're the data processor, you're the data controller. Same as the responsibilities Google or Microsoft have if you use Workspace or 365.

Unlikely. ChromeOS doesn't do in-situ updates, you've essentially got two copies of ChromeOS on your system always - the current version and the previous one. So if you're on Chrome 96, you've got a version of Chrome 95 sat dormant. Your Chrome 96 doesn't get updated when there is an update. 95 gets updated to 97, and your 96 will be switched to sitting dormant. They essentially swap you between the two OS's on your device. Thats why OS updates are so quick on Chrome OS, you're not trying to update the live OS you're using.

We've notified them of our intentions not to continue with our one site we have left stuck with it currently. Unlikely we will crawl back to them asking to be tied in till 2025. A simple running of figures that we've done, including allowing for licensing of a new server (which would be due considering the age of the current one) or cloud hosting costs for SIMS, and based on the features actually being used and the relevant alternative packaged being purchased because of that... we could save up between £2750-£3400 a year. Not that best value is always largest savings... but £10k over three years to stay with ESS SIMS would be incredibly hard to justify.

Already checked. If I'm in a higher risk group, my doctor's have never let me know! I'm not a big enough BMI to be in the only risk group I may be in! This. Absolutely this. Moving MIS shouldn't be dependent on inspections, else it will never happen. Especially in a 6 to 10 school MAT, as mathematically you'll always have an inspection coming up and nothing would ever get done.

I think you're also under-estimating the number of schools who aren't necessarily happy with SIMS, but either know no better or do not have the confidence to switch and have members of SLTs who are change averse. Or perhaps have a lot of support from a former LEA IT Unit that are all-in on SIMS, so will FUD scare them from changing or even looking at changing. Which is ultimately why they've scrapped SIMS 8 in favour of this "recreate what they know" attempt.
