I'm Mark, 25, and living on the shaky (and currently regrade-pending) title of Head of IT&Communication Services! Although originally from Yorkshire, I'm based in Cornwall and responsible for IT (and a handful of non-IT things!) in a secondary school in Cornwall. I also coordinate (and visit) primary schools within our cluster who buy in to our support instead of County's provision! I'm hoping to take more of an active role in the forums, and currently interested in learning more about remote access / TS experiences of others, so you may see me post in those kind of topics quite a lot! UKDarkstar Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Hi everybody Got referred to this place some time back by wagnerk as we both hang out at Certforums too (so they'll be others that know me I'm sure ). Brief history - 10 yrs in IT running my own support company (Microsoft technologies) which went bust, now job-hunting and looking at secondary schools or higher education as possible options for IT Manager type roles. Some irons in the fire currently and have also dipped out on a couple of past ones (won't say which as they have been mentioned on here). Always happy to help out wherever I can and strong supporter of BCS Glad to be here !

znova Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 Having just come back from an embc conference, from the mouth of the embc managing director (speaking of conversation from 6 months ago) - "There are not enough professionally qualified ICT teachers, what we need is a recession to drive them from industry into teaching." Don't you just love people like that?

Anyway, do you really think it's such a good idea to have ICT teachers that are ex-industry experts? A, they will always think they know the best, B, they'll try and bypass security and C, let's face it are they gonna be happy with the pay? A thought...

The basics first, get them out of the way, i go by the name Martin and I'm an IT Technician at The Harwich School down in wouldn't you know it Harwich. I've gone in there as an employee after initially being a student, before working at the school i was a web developer/administrator. I know my way round a computer or two but I'm still in the Proficient stage, not yet an expert, hopefully edugeek will be the place i find answers to those burning questions i might be challenged with. ddcmp Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 hi all, my names DDCMP, im a technician at quite a few schools working for a subcontractor in West Yorkshire.....i dont have any qualifications unfortunately but im hoping to start mcp's soon (its a little hard with the child and a mortgage and a wife who loves clothes). i have quite a bit of experience on the hardware side of things as thats where my career started (working for a well known hardware manufacturer) anything else .... feel free to ask!

I came late into the game as was in my 40's when I got into IT as worked in a jail for 6 years as network administrator/co-ordinator. Though am Scots I live and work in Wallsend!! I am an IT Technician in a school for 11-18 year olds. We run CC4 and since it was installed last July have had a bit of an up and down road with it. Seems to be settling a bit now though software roll outs can still be problematic.
