Mako Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 I jumped the gun on introducing myself, so here it is. I could run off a longer spiel, but I'll keep it brief. My name is Ryan, I'm a 20 year old ICT Technician and website administrator in North Yorkshire also doing an NVQ Level 3 as part of my work. I'm your typical boyish geek - I like building computers and websites, I've built my own gaming "demon" and as such I enjoy online gaming, I like geeky gadgets and funky objects that make you say "Wow". I'm more into computer hardware etc but as my job encompasses more than just repairs, I'm learning the ins and outs of networking and network management. I'm going to dive back into the "Fill in the Blank" thread...

I've been IT passionate since 1994 and just recently I decided to try to develop a career in IT (yeah I know it's late). I am just about to apply for couple school ICT Technician jobs and I have found this forum (on certforums.co.uk). I thought I'd introduce myself as I have found it very useful.

SmaraitanCollege Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 Whhops! I've already gone rampant on your forums without Introducing myself! I'm Glenn, 26, an "IT Support Officer" from South Australia. I've actually been a lurker here for some time, since working in Education I've had several queries that have led me here for a resolution, so i thought it fair to sign up and hopefully give something back. Before securing my position at a High School in SA, I had been a Help Desk Officer at various places, notably a Hospital in Adelaide, and a Technical College. I then had a brief stint as a teacher of IT, before deciding that despite the awesome pay, i couldn't hack the workload (lazy beast i am). So here i am in Catholic Eucation! IT Support Officer to a 3 campus school. (Although I'm also a Desktop Admin and general dogsbody aswell, i just don't get the glorious pay packet!) I've been lucky (or not) enough to have been here through some major transitions, with the amalgamation of the three schools, plus a move to a Catholic WAN environment, and our main site has recently gone from being Netware to Server 2003. It's hard work, but usually rewarding! Thanks for making me welcome already!

I'm Iain, a Network manager for a big independent school in Godalming. Prior to this I was in IT for a big pharma company, looking after IT in the UK and US offices, along with the odd trip to India for help out there. May be a silly question, i know edugeek is specifically aimed at IT professionals such as high school technicians etc. Would it be wrong if i used edugeek for my common windows problems, has such a great community.

You won't be the first to ask such questions here... and TBH it's nice when students 'come clean'... rather than think we won't notice (... and generally we do! We're too used to students, not to spot them!) to edugeek! 'Search' is your friend as many common problems have already been answered on these boards; which is probably how you found us in the first place! Who knows, maybe you'll join us on 'the other side' in the future!
