Just got a job with RM Community Connect 4.

Ive just got a job as ICT Systems manager in a primary school.... they run RM Community Connect 4.. is there any websites i can learn the program? or any trials i can install?

First thing you need to do is find out if they have the CC4 Reference Guide hanging around and read it.

Next find out about getting onto the RM CC4 course.

I doubt there is anything in the public domain as it's propriatory to RM.

You'll need access to the RM support site if you want to access any materials etc. You can try and set an account up here RM - Support Home Page but I am not sure what checks they do if any to ensure you work at said school before providing you access.

Do you have a decent understanding of AD and other server roles? Knowing the basics of a standard Windows client/server network is a good starting place..

RM run courses for CC4 for technicians an then also application building courses. Depending on your schools support contract depends on cost. They have a course mid October and another mid November at RM in Abingdon, Oxford. As an Essex lad you will need to stay over unless you want the commute.

An introductory Deep Dive into AD, it goes way beyond what you need to know, but tools you up far better than learning to the lowesst level that you need to operate the service. I read a version of this (or something like it) back in 1999 a couple of years before I ever got near a real live installation.

Remember though that the CC4 interface actually does most of the AD best practice stuff for you, but it is highly useful to understand the theory behind what it is up to.

Id say Speak to RM, I once supported a school without any knowledge of it and I read through the Reference guide and that was helpful but RM said to me that its best to go on a course about it as there is things on courses that are not in the guide.

 

Not sure if this is still the case as it was a few years ago.

I used to manage a Community Connect 4 network. it is practically Windows server with RM made applications sitting on top! the management tools are very useful, especially package allocations which allows you to install software to different machines on the network. also managing users is a breeze. This is all in the RM management console. any more questions feel free to ask me!

If you are new to CC4, I would suggest you ask RM about a training/conversion course. Its not rocket science but if you don't understand and do stuff the RM way - then you WILL have problems. I assume the school is paying for RM support. I would check on that.
