Thanks for the advice, just tried all of that and no joy. The LAN driver just won't work unless manually installed 😞- 16 replies

Sorry to resurrect an old thread was it a Lenovo Thinkpad E14 Gen 5s with the Intel chipset? I'm having the same issue. Its a network driver and I have tried adding the network driver twice now and its not working. Maybe there is a different driver that works that I haven't tried?- 16 replies

Hi all, we're looking at migrating to Windows 11 using Intune rather than carrying on with our traditional AD/On prem server model. I'd like to hear from anyone who has migrated their Secondary school over to In Tune. How did it go? How did you replace things like print servers, desktop monitoring software like impero, other software which depends on AD etc

Thanks Oaktech, i've tired that and I get [SC] OpenService FAILED 5: Access is denied. 😞 The service seems to be locked and I can't get it to start

Hi all, we're moving to Windows Defender Anti virus in Windows 10 22H2. When our devices were imaged there was a script run sc config "WinDefend" start= disabled. This permanently disabled the windows defender service and prevented it from running. Its also greyed out the Defender service options and as a result we cannot start the defender service without rebuilding the PCs. I've tried a few things and I just get access denied when I try net start commands etc. Anyone got any ideas??

Hey all, I've just been tasked with setting up Surpass for a mock. Took the advice of WJEC and downloaded the "latest" version of Surpass from their website. Deployed it via SCCM using the same script as last year, putting it into the drive in its own folder with read and write permissions set. A few of the PCs have updated and opened up fine, but the vast majority are stuck in "update loops". Didn't have this issue last year and 30 of the PCs I've installed this on, didn't have the previous version as they're new. Anyone got Surpass up and running on the latest version consistently?

did anyone get to the bottom of this one? i've got the same issue

Hi all, is anyone any good with DNS/DHCP. Our DHCP server was showing as out of IP addresses. In the scope there were 60 excluded IP addresses which weren't being used for anything anymore so I edited the exclusions to include those 60 addresses. That looked like it was working and two new devices appeared in DHCP but I was then getting the error Forward record registration for IPV4 addresses and FQDN failed with error 9017 (DNS bad key). After reading some help guides online I changed the option on the scope to Always dynamically update DNS records. After I restarted the scope I'm now getting the message DHCP scope is out of addresses despite adding some earlier and those IP addresses haven't been allocated. Tried deleting one PC's DNS records but when you try to get it to pick up and IP address the PC says unable to contact your DHCP server. Anyone any ideas?

Hey all, I hate to resurrect old threads but I'm having this issue at the moment. One of my colleagues does about 4 hours work on a .spl file and when he comes back to edit it again I get the exact same symptoms as above. It looks like there is a data in the file but its obviously getting corrupted somewhere along the line. EES don't seem to have an answer.

My personal opinion is to simply ditch your current AD structure and migrate onto the trusts HUB, unless the hub means that you need to have your own parent domain. In which case i'd ask the person managing the trust HUB to create you a new subdomain and then do a CSV extract of your users and groups off your old domain and recreate them on the new system. If the trusts hub has different naming conventions, maybe now is the time to say to staff and students that this summer we're converting to the main academy's trust. We will adopt the following changes and these are the benefits (e.g. different site learning). Don't create extra hassle or work for yourself trying to interconnect an old system to a new one, just see if you can modernise your system into the trusts.

Thanks Dave, that looks promising, have you tried it on your site?

Hi all I'm currently in the process of helping our Business Manager weene our school of paying by cheque and we're trying to move over to BACS payments. In FMS we can produce an output file to upload to the banks online portal, but the file is rejected by the bank as it isn't in the correct format. I have been able to create a working .csv file which works with the banks systems but I wanted to know is there a way to modify the FMS output file to match the banks requirements so that the Business Manager can upload BACs files. Thanks

Did you get the job? We're all wanting to know

I've found interviewers like questions asked at the end because it shows that you're genuinely engaged with the interview and interested in the position. I always liked to say, what would you want me to do in the first day or what priorities do you have that you would like me to look at. Don't ask too many but 3 good ones is the best thing to do.

I'm trying to deploy this software in school. Does anyone have a script or MSI for Gamemaker?

Hi all I've been trying to grant full access to our students home folders by using an icacls script I found on the internet below. This script creates the text file with the folder names which match the usernames, but the final step doesn't take place and the script won't add the users to their respective folders. I wondered if this was due Server 2019 preventing it? @echo off REM Create list of folders dir /a:d /b E:\HomeFolders\B20 >C:\temp\usersB20.txt REM Read each line from just created text file... for /f "tokens=*" %%G in (C:\temp\usersB20.txt) do ( REM ...and set ownership for each folder icacls "E:\HomeFolders\B20\%%G" /setowner "yggg.internal\%%G" echo. )

Hi all I have a case with a student where periodically all of his emails are moved into his deleted items. There is no pattern to this and the only evidence I can find is that the student must be doing this themselves. The parent has told us that she herself has observed that his emails are being auto deleted. This only seems to happen when the student is logged on and not at any other time. I have reset the password, asked them not to login via anything other than an internet browser. Not heard from them for a few days and now his emails have been deleted again. He was in a teams lesson, then "kicked out" and not able to rejoin. I've opened his calendar and the lesson was still in his calendar. 3 of us have taken a look at this and we can't find a reason other than manual intervention to explain this. I've also had reports of other students in this year group declining calendar invites to teams lessons and they're declining them and its removing and blocking all subsequent calendar entries for these sessions. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks all, I tried about 3 passwords until the simplest lowercase password worked!

Hi all does anyone know how to change the password on MDT/SCCM boot images. E.g. the password which comes up at the start of the Microsoft deployment toolkit task sequence Wizard page? I tried to update our Boot image, that didn't work so I reloaded the original one, although it boots and appears to be working. The password which we set 3 years ago is now saying its incorrect! Not having much luck updating our Windows image at the moment!

just make sure that they're going to wipe any data or remove any drives :-)
