I would lik to announce the birth of my son Daniel John Wilson born this morning at 07:06 by emergency c-section

 

Both mother & baby are fine - NOW :(

 

At approx 2am this moring my partner suffered a sever asmtha attack whilst labouring, this was firther complicataed by the onset of a panick attack and an anxiety attack. This resulted in her being unable to breathe unaided, and her blood pressure being raised to dangerous levels & the baby was found to be in distress

 

She was rushed to theatre where the managed to stabalise her, but the baby was still in distress. The only solution was a c-section, but that could not be done at that time (approx 4am) due to the fact that hayley came close to further asthma attacks when lay on her back. It looked at one stage that I could lose either Hayley or Daniel or both.

 

Fortunately they found hayley to be 7cm dilated and the baby's heart was stable so they decided to wait and see if labour could proceed naturally. However, by 0630 the babys heart was in distress again, but hayley's breathing was stable so a c-section was performed

 

Daniel was born slightly groggy, and weighed 7lb 12oz but with an APGAR score of 1!! this increased to 9 within a few minutes after some immdetiate resus.

 

Hayley is now recovering in Oldham's High Dependency Unit overnight, whilst Daniel is in the neo-natal unit for obs.

 

A very traumatic day for all.

 

I'm bo****ed so am off for a kip for a few hours

Congratulations - it sounds like you went through absolute hell.

As an asthmatic myself - a small point - if you DO decide to go through it again, ask for a planned induction and epidural, WHATEVER they say!

Glad it all went well though

Do you know, I had never really thought about the asthma problem, although I can see it being one - my wife is severely asthmatic (was hospitalised with it for 5 days 18 months ago), so we'll definitely need to consider that if/when the time arises.

Congrats to all glad everyone is doing well.

 

Reading that made my heart go out to you mate as I can imagine what it would be like to be in that situation.

 

Our second Grace was only just born in the delivery suite it was very nearly in the corridor between the ward and delivery suite.

This was a planned induction - well kind of...

She was admitted on Sunday night with suspect pre-ecplampsia which by tuesday was pretty much confirmed so booked her for induction yesterday. the idea being that an epidural would be applied asap

Problem was, they werent going to do it until the pains from the induction drug (prostin) had worn off and "true" labour pains had begun - which was the case at about 0130 this morning - she was 5cm dilated. then all hell broke loose :(

 

But thankfully all is ok - i've tried to sleep the last couple of hours but keep waking up in tears - of both joy and anguish :(

Honestly, some hospitals! - I had the epidural and THEN they gave me the inducing drug - so don't let them tell you any different next time (never, I hear you say!)

 

You will be very shocked yourself - have you got someone (other than Hayley) to talk to? You need to cry, or laugh or whatever and maybe articulate how awful it was for you without feeling that you are making a fuss as it must have been worse for Hayley (not necessarily, anyway).

Do not try to be a brave guy about this - it sounds a dreadful experience and you can allow yourself to be upset, scared, relieved and every other emotion there is.

There you are, y'see - once you are a parent you try and look after everyone!

Congratulations, and enjoy all this brand new experience for you, do not worry about things at school, I kind of have everything under control, but it would not be a bad idea if you bring your son to help out to fix some problems that I have trying to change domain to machine , or he could help me with a problem to convert RIS images to WIM format........
