LukeC Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 Not really sure where this sholdl go to be honest so thought its best in here. I am looking into a free helpdesk solution for the school ideally that can be integrated to AD but any suggestions are better than none. Somethings thats quick and simple to use and the can ideally support more than one tech/admin user. I have started to look at liberum. Thanks
Sylv3r Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 If you do a search on the site theirs quite a few to choose from - a free one from a member on here I seem to remember. The above two recommendations generally seem to be the most popular free helpdesk's members recommend.
glennda Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 I use Request Tracker - really good although not AD intergrated. Toby
bodminman Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 I used WebHelpDesk. Free for x1 Techie and full AD integration.
round2it Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 webhelpdesk (1 tech though but its all you need really)
plexer Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 I use Request Tracker - really good although not AD intergrated. Toby Ldap is possible with rt. Ben
localzuk Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 I use Request Tracker - really good although not AD intergrated. Toby I run RT here and have it AD integrated. Its a bit of a faff to set up, but works.
mattx Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 Another vote for Spiceworks, and I'm quite pissed this evening so I know what I'm talking about for once. 2
glennda Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 I run RT here and have it AD integrated. Its a bit of a faff to set up, but works. Ahh I didn't know it was - although TBH I have never tried to set it up with AD - I just have it syncing using IMAP to exchange and staff send to the account.
alan-d Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 GLPI has a helpdesk feature together with it's asset management. Although it has to be said that the helpdesk is not as user friendly toward non technical staff.
Admiral208 Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 another vote for webhelpdesk. Ad integration and send users email updates. doddle to set up.
Rydra Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 another webhelpdesk here. The one techie license basically means you've got one techie login for it. If you pay for it, you can set it up to assign work to different techies.... With the free version you can be logged into the same account more than once, so just run it as that and go for the good old NM verbally tells X to work on job 12 and Y to work on job 14 etc...
bladedanny Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 We use OsTicket. No AD integration but it's dead simple for staff. You can even pull down tickets from an email (as you can with many).
Willott Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 Cerberus here - can get a couple of free seats for filling in a form at the end of the install (or always used to be able to)
carvjo Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 adventnet - the standard edition used to be free for one technician - probably still is? - We use the paid for version - it integrates with AD - does inventory, purchasing and loads more.. the stats and reporting feature is excellent.. Help Desk Software Download, IT HelpDesk Tool Download - Download ManageEngine ServiceDesk Plus
sjatkn Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 We use OTRS here (OTRS: Open Source Help Desk and IT Service Management Solution | Home), it's free and open source. Can handle as many support staff as you want, picks up emails and puts them into the call logs or can be web based for the customers also. It's very flexible and can be expanded to handle change requests using an ITIL compliant module. The customers and support staff can be integrated into AD if you want. It is not simple to setup but using it is not too difficult, especially if you have your customers interact with it via email.
AnnDroyd Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 (edited) If anyone needs something simple, I've re-uploaded my MS Access based system to . It basically logs calls in chronological order, let's you assign priorities and close jobs once complete. It's editable in Access, so if anyone wants to modify it for their own use, or add a web interface to it, then feel free. Any feedback, or sharing of useful modifications would be welcome. siuko Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 We did use Request Tracker... But planning on switching to GLPI as you can have AD and single sign on to make it faster for staff to use.
AnnDroyd Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 web helpdesk here...works lovely! What's that? Is it a freeware system or something you've developed yourself?
MK-2 Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 another webhelpdesk here. same as everyone else, 1 techie login between the two of us. we rarely both login at the same time anyway. set up for email tickets so we can do it all via email. jwood: webhelpdesk is a free 1 techie licence helpdesk software (from Help Desk Software by Web Help Desk i believe)
