How old is everybody here?

Im 21 and started IT when I was 16.... 1 year voluntary, 2 years apprenticeship and now my second year fulltime, all at the same place . and am an ex student

Started my working life for 2 weeks on a building site, before going here Army Apprentices College Chepstow - Home Page at a tender age of 15 1/2 as a Painter & Decorator. This was all in 1972. You can do the math.

Im 27, been in IT for 9 years now!

I have just turned 58, my very first experience of a computer was as a student learning to program on a GEC Elliot 803 and an ICL 1902A.

 

After that is was mostly IBM Mainframes all the way from 1972 until 2002...... in parallel I had a ZX81, BBC B & started playing with PCs when the original IBM PC was launched, owned a couple of IBM PS/2s, many IBM Thinkpads, even had a P/390....

I'm 23 now. I've always had a job of sorts ever since I was 16, my first cleaning job whilst I was at college paid for my driving lessons and my first car and my job as a dinner lady (yes, lol, I cooked and served school dinners for a few years) whilst at uni helped stem the tide of debt a bit.

 

After leaving Uni I did a work placement in London for a month which was ridiculous, it cost me more than they were paying me just to travel there. I was offered the job at the end of it amazingly but I told them to shove it as it wasn't enough money - I'd rather be sitting at my parents house than getting into more debt. I then managed to get a job with a big company which was a complete joke - I'd have been better off being a full time dinner lady, same pay, 100x less stress and virtually nobody being nasty for no apparent reason. After that I got another job in a similar but surprisingly easier role and moved to London for it.

If we are counting that, I did a milk round, mornings before school and weekends all day. That as 41 years ago.

Mid 20s here, but every time I see the new Year 7 Intake in September I feel about 50!

50 next birthday. been doing ICT 8 years now since leaving the RAF after 22 years of mechanocal engineering. Got fed up with being oily, noticed that the Electronics techs didn't so that was that.

Am 56 and started in IT working with Macs in a design studio for 6 years. Moved onto the Prison Service as Network Administrator for 6 years there also. Which I may say were old Value Pluses and Ergo Pro's running 3.1 before we switched literarly over-night to Dell's and Win XP!!! Been in school now 5.5 years the last three co-running CC4.

23, been working since finishing A-Levels - preferred the work route to degrees and think I made the right choice, started as a cable plugging technician and now network \ VLE manager

 

Been here for 4-5 years now, already beginning to forget how long, must be getting old :-P

20 here - worked part time as a tech at my old school during college, plan is to get out of education IT some day (soon(ish))

At 16 went to college for two years

Then at 18 got first job at Fork Truck company earning pennies, was there 2 years

Then moved on to work in Head Office for a retail comapny supporting till kit for 3 years

Then relocated to Middlesex and worked at a PFI school for 6 months, untill I moved to another school closer to home, been here now for 3 and a half years.

 

So been in IT since 2001.... aged 27...

Got offered my first IT job straight after finishing year 11 (16), worked as the IT Tech at my old school for almost two years and recently moved schools to become an IT Systems Administrator at 18.

 

I plan on getting to Network Manager within a few years and then possibly leaving education IT, for a while at least.

I'm 31, did a placement year during my degree working for another dept of the Uni running their website. Got offered a job when I graduated and I've been here ever since, although the role has changed and expanded a lot over time.

Wait till he gets near the 40! Should I feel twitchy about being nearer the 50 than I would really like?

 

Of course not....and (if I make it to 40) I'll be sure to be moaning about that too, any excuse really...that and grey hairs at my age!
