The successful candidate will have at least 5 years’ experience in an IT support role and be able to display a high level of technical expertise. The post is full time, working 36 hours per week (Monday to Friday). Runs fine. Although the old Celerons with 512mb RAM are quite slow, but I can't blame the servers for that! RM always under estimate how many PCs that can be supported per server. When we switched to CC4 last summer we had the 2 new servers commisioned, with the intention of getting a third server this year if required, which it's not. Like you said, it's the extra support contracts that add up over the years so you're better off going for a higher spec server and less of them.

We currently have 700 computers on our CC4 network, using just 2 servers (FR + 1 DC), so you should be ok downsizing.

We're going CC4, should keep us going for a good few years. It also coincides with our servers getting a bit old and creeky, so nice new servers too!

RM will allow you to split the cost over 2 years, interest free (my account manager informed me of this this morning, as we are in a similar position). That makes the upgrade to CC4 much more manageable if it was just the initial price that's putting you off. And as the others have said, keep haggling!!

Have a look around the engine and locate the various sensors, remove the electrical plugs and re-fit them one at a time. It's easy to dislodge these things if you were a bit 'care free' in your previous mechanical work! A basic sensor/switch can be bypassed with a paper clip plugged into the cables to the sensor.

Windows 7 works well on these, once you add an extra 512mb. I use one for my 'to do' list, saves me having scraps of paper over the desk. I also use it as a test machine for checking projectors and IWB's, wireless access points etc around the school.

We use the Dell Optiplex USFF which bolts on to the back of a monitor bracket. We are very happy with these as they are a tidy solution which can easily be screwed to the desk for security and to keep them looking tidy.

We use the Schools Agreement and it really does take all the hard work out of licensing. Last year we licensed 573 PC's for about £12,500, as it's an annual cost it's easy to budget for. The only downside is having to pay for 'all' computers, including MAC's or those that have been purchased with an OEM license of the latest software included.

Yes, we have had this problem since yesterday on our new SIMS server. We are using Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0.4, I will try removing this and see if it helps. Restarting my SIMS server every hour is becoming a pain!
