(I divided car cost by 10 assuming you own the car for 10 years.) so £3640 total a year, divide that by 10000 miles a year = £0.364 a mile. It costs me £1.60 one way into town on a bus, 1.5 miles away = £1.066 a mile, so 10000 miles a year = £10666.666 Either my maths is wrong or your argument that public transport is cheaper is wrong. I think it's the latter.

Businesses are businesses, unless the government bails them all out some will undoubtedly fail its the nature of doing business they are affected by many factors, can't blame the government entirely for that. If I was the government I would do more to help smaller businesses like cutting business rates (which local councils have been increasing despite the problems). And I agree I'd rather not have any of them either but better the lesser evil.

Ultimately it was the labour government in charge of our country and thus in charge of those that operate within it. Yes the banks caused the recession but he certainly didn't do a thing to prevent it - ultimate responsibility was his. Nor would we be in such a mess if the government of the time hadn't borrowed more than we could ever hope to pay back easily - its not the recession that's left us in this mess, its the amount our previous government borrowed. And yes he can do things better but who would you want trying to make those changes Gordon or George? one dip does not necessarily mean recession is on the horizon, we have to get used to things being different than before the credit crunch

wooo we're closing because of the snow here in North Buckinghamshire. Only had an inch or two but it's forecast to get worse and all our Kids live out in villages via bus, long weekend for me xD Snow days will be one of the few things I miss when I stop working in schools, and that's only a month away!

What we have to bear in mind is he is offering his view. Without an understanding of his background and his upbringing I don't feel he can be judged, it may be his experience that most parents he has met do not want gay children for whatever reason, such as the reasons pcstru said. We have freedom of expression in this country and what he has said may be disliked by others but it is our right to express an opinion, let the voters decide at the next election if he has overstepped his place in politics. I have no children so can't express an opinion on the topic itself.

I don't see how it is a depressing money grabbing view, its the facts, we are a capitalist country in order to live we need money - therefore the aim of everybody is to make money to live.

Yes I do mean just those, there are some who swindle the system in regards to the medical side of things but lets not go there as it is less common. How did i say you don't get benefits after a couple of years of working? - I said the opposite, you get out what you put in, if you work then lose your job then you should get benefits, if you never work through laziness then you should get nothing. and as I said to sonofsanta a person coming in to the world of work but can find no job should be supported temporarily. The lack of jobs is partly down to some people believing some jobs are beneath them so leave it for those, namely immigrants, who actually have a work ethic and will take such jobs

So in order to live a happy life you use no money at all? You have forsaken money altogether? Every person needs to make money to live - hence their aim is to make money, to what extent they make money is down to them.

I think there should be a safeguard of 1 year default to support those in such situations, difficult subject but to sort the issues fairly the difficult topics need to be covered

We live in a capitalist country, the aim of every person is to make money, most of us would probably do the same thing if you were in their position, "ooo look a legal loophole to make more money" - come on you know you would do it if it meant more money for you and your family. On the topic of benefits I favour the credit scheme, and tbh I think if you lose your job, you should receive benefits based on how much you have contributed to the economy - basically your taxes support you i.e. you work 5 years then lose your job so you are entitled to benefits for 2.5 years.
