JPS Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 Hi all As a recent member to edugeek and equally to forums in general I am enjoying reading various posts and learning a lot at the same time but where I stumble is peoples use of acronyms. My knowledge of IT related ones is reasonable its just general chat/forum posting acronyms that confuse me. Could anyone advise on a location of a list of acronyms explained or if you're really bored post a few in reply. Thanks
joe90bass Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 Google? :-) That's what I do! had to look up FTW the other, already forgotten what it means! I also just accept sometimes that I'm not as young as I like to think I am ;-)

tech_guy Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 I always forget what IMAHO means although I see it a lot. Mental block thing (although I am a bit dyslexic).
LeMarchand Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 LMGTFY Sorry, couldn't resist! I just pop any unfamiliar acronyms into Google.
gl3nnym Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 Acronyms are constantly changing and new ones come up all the time. I would just go to Google and type "acronym " and you are pretty much certain to find out.

powdarrmonkey Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 LMGTFY MNAH.... Actually these aren't strictly acronyms, they don't compress to pronounceable words (well, the second one is arguable).
sippo Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 I hate them all. What's wrong with using plain old english?!

pete Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 I see they missed also out GSADYFT, JAHOYFT, SHTHIMNSHA, TLSN and TTIWWP. But you'll probably survive on here without them.
Batman Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 I like taking serious acronyms and making them silly. For example, I recently found: PFI = Perfidious Financial Idiocy RM = Rampant Malpractice Try it. It's a great game
