Ambient Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 Hi Just been told that we're getting Channel 4 Clip bank here in our school. I'm fine with the extra hardware and what ever, but that i need to know about is the software requirements. Do the computers which play the videos need any special software/codecs on them? We arent going for the rackmount server, which actually suites me. Anyone else using this system on here?
beeswax Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 We have this up and running in our school. It's all Flash video and rather like YouTube etc you can embed the videos in your VLE. This was initially a very popular purchase, but it appears to have fallen by the wayside despite constant updates. It's very well laid out and easy to navigate. 1

The reason why i sak is because we dont have a VLE Noo You dont need to have a VLE, you can just access it via the server webpage that displays the videos. The guy above was just saying that is how they have used there resource and implemented it within there VLE. we also have clipbank, and we just have a link on our platform to the clipbank internal server. tech_guy Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 We have it here, as Warwickshire LA purchased it for all their schools. It's an excellent resource, well used by the staff. They embed the content into the VLE, Powerpoint, etc. We access it via our browsers usually.

Sylv3r Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 We have the older content and staff like it - the newer content and solution looks better but I couldn't justify the new cost as a lot of the videos will be duplicated from what we already have!
AlexB Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 Watch out for having Serif MoviePlus 4 (and possibly other older versions) installed, it bring a codec that cause IE to crash when loading clipbank movies. We ended up scripting the removal of the offending file (can't remember name, but if you get crashes the filename is in the error popup)
