maniac Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 Why does almost every manufacturer feel it's necessary to abuse my eyesight by putting very bright vivd blue LEDs on everything these days? One of our servers has such a bright one I've put some blutak over it What was wrong with green?? 1

Now, we all cower behind another blue beauty - bluetack, to hide the eye-searing brightness of them The irony. But aye, RM are a pain for it these days too :/

glennda Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 Have to say now that HP have gone all white now, all the new stuff ive seen has white rather than blue! Blue is all the rage, wii, sky + Green is so 90's HP do make there SANS flash nicely tho when being configured

DaveMurphy Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 I must admit... I purchased two strips of LED Blue LEDS and stuck them on the back of my dual screens in my room, (they're on 24/7) the only reason why I got LG Flatron Screens was for the blue power buttons... its addictive.
EduTech Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 If you get nice and shiney SUN/Oracle Kit you get the lovley pleasure of having Green LED's they look so nice in a dark server room... as do the Dell Blue LED's but i do prefer the green! muhaha!

S'like Blackpool illuminations on those early Winter mornings! I think the majority you can see are blue in our cabs, largely due to RMs recent server offerings, but on a count, green would probably win because of our EMC SAN!

And then when you try to go to sleep all you can see is this bright red LED that was previously burnt into your head. In dream land..... "I'm through on goal, here we go, pick this out the net ARGGGGGGHHHHHHH, WTF is that bright light?! Oh crud I've missed!" Spoils my dreams!

I used to think that the blue LED on my on my PC's speaker system was bright until I got my Edimax NAS box which has Blue LED's on it that are so bright that they can light up my dining room

As for putting them on servers, i don't see the point Dell even have a extension lead for the LED at the back showing activity, so you can move it around and clip it on the front of a cable management tray, blue as well, but at least shows the server is alive.

glennda Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 don't know about dell but the HP servers we have, have led for the hard disk state e.g green ok red failed. and a little panel on front with a diagram of the inside showing the status of all the components probly works out at about 20/25 led's of varying colour

SteveBentley Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 We have a nice Behringer sound mixer, you know the kind of thing you would likely be using in a darkened venue. Stupidly bright (pointless) white LED on it, until I added a bit of gaffer tape.

That would be all well and good except my TV has nothing but a standby function. There is no button on the TV to actually turn it off. And I'm not gonna struggle around the back of the cabinet every night to turn it off - that's just silly.
